STORYTELLING
1.      Pre-storytelling Part
The Aim of the Storytelling:
The story is attractive and enjoyable for young learners.
The story helps to develop pupils’ cultural awareness and create positive attitudes towards learning.
The story increases pupils’ desire to continue learning much more.
The story improves pupils’ vocabulary knowledge and contributes to confidence building.
The story called The Seasons of the Year is authentic and has a universal theme so that the story provides information about real life in the target language.
The dialogues and some repetitions help pupils to understand the story.
The story motivates pupils to develop their imagination and appeals to their sense of humor.
The story also can enrich pupils’ language skills so that both grammar and vocabulary learning are completed.
Procedure
The teacher tells the story and uses the power point presentation. While the teacher tells the story, pupils listen to the teacher and also watch the power point presentation so that pupils can imagine the story easily.

THE STORY:  THE SEASONS of the YEAR
There are four seasons in the year. They are spring, summer, autumn and winter. Each season is different. One day, the seasons have an argument. Each of them says “I am the best!”
Spring says: “Flowers bloom and everywhere is green and beautiful. Birds fly and insects have fun with new flowers. The weather is warm in spring.”
Summer says: “The sun shines brightly and people eat ice cream and watermelon. The weather is hot and sunny in summer.”
Autumn says: “Everywhere is full of colorful leaves. The weather is cool and windy in autumn.”
Winter says: “People wear woolen clothes, scarf, hat.. They drink hot chocolate. Children make a snowman and play snowball. The weather is cold and snowy in winter.”
One day, winter meets summer. The winter likes the cold, rain, snow but the summer likes sunshine. The sun doesn’t come to the city. People are cold and miss summer. Children don’t eat ice cream and watermelon. Spring and autumn are very sad and say: “We are important all together” There is no problem. The four seasons are happy.

2.      Storytelling Activity Part
The Activity: Who says this?
The Material: Four pictures about seasons, the worksheet (includes multiple choices and true false questions)

The Aim of the Activity: Pupils try to match sentences and pictures according to the story.
Pupils can easily make connection between sentences and pictures.
This activity encourages pupils to improve their pronunciation and word knowledge.
It also helps pupils to reinforce their background knowledge about seasons.

3.      Post-storytelling Activity Part

The Activity: Role play

The Material: Puppets


The Aim of the Activity: Pupils develop the ability of speaking skill because they try to express themselves in target language. It is also a confidence building activity.

Procedure

The teacher chooses two pupils and gives instructions. Every pupil chooses his or her favorite season. Pupils disguise their voices and give information about seasons. Pupils are wanted to introduce themselves each other by explaining the characteristics of the season. They ask questions each other such as “What is the weather like in autumn?” “Do you like snow?” etc. The teacher tries to include all pupils in the activity so that they communicate each other.
