                                               STORYTELLING
LESSON: ENGLISH
CLASS: 4TH GRADE
UNIT: CLOTHES

                                               GENERAL AIMS
All children love stories. Learning a language from stories will be easier and more enjoyable for students. Students both listen to the story and start to understand clothes from the story. After storytelling, nearly all students will be active while acting out. I think that this storytelling will be a big chance for children both to learn and enjoy.
Story: Story will be about Caillou and his clothes. I wrote this story.  To tell the truth, I found a  short video from British Council. I modified this story, added new names of the clothes, demonstrative adjectives and simplified its language according to 4th grade’s level. This story includes 5 clothes and demonstrative adjectives( these, this)
These vocabulary used in the story is simple and understandable for 4th grade students. I used simple present tense and a little past simple tense. There are a lot of repetitions, some question/ answer . There is a surprise for Caillou at the end of the story. This story is memorable for the students and short as much as they can remember.

CAILLOU’S CLOTHES
One day, Caillou plays with his sister Rozi. They have a good time. They see their mother with a bag.
Caillou asks “What are you doing mum? Where are you going?”
His mother answers” I am taking your old clothes to the charity shop.”
Caillou: They still fit me look, mum. This t-shirt is my favourite. My grandmother bought me.
His mother: Are you sure Caillou? Is this t-shirt?
Caillou:yes. Yes. And  these slippers are still OK. These are my first slippers.
Caillou’s mother: But these slippres are old.
Caillou: Don’t take these trousers, mum. I like these trousers so much.
His mother: But my honey, these trousers are too small.
Caillou: I love these shorts, mum. I don’t want to give these shorts.
His mother: Honey, these trousers doesn’t fit you.
Caillou: My father bought this pullover. I want to wear this pullover, again. Why did I grow so much? I love these clothes.
His mother: Listen to me Caillou. You grow so much and you don’t wear these clothes again. I should take these clothes to someone who needs them.
Caillou: Ok mother, you are right. I grow so much. You can take them.
His mother goes and turns back in fifteen minutes.
Caillou’s mother: I didn’t take these clothes to the shop.
Caillou: Why not?
His mother: On the way I found someone who really needs these clothes.
His mother shows the teddy bear and they laughs.

Aim:
In this activity: After activating childrens’ prior knowledge about Caillou, I will make students to watch a short video( about 50 seconds) about Caillou. I will introduce the story.

While-storytelling:

Aim:
In this activity, I will start to tell my story. I will explain this story by heart. Children will start to:understand what the story is about. This story consists of 5 clothes and demonstratives adjectives. I will try to teach these points  in the story as much as I can do while students are listening to the story and having a good time.
Procedure:
I will start to explain my story with Caillou’s puppet and small colorful cards about clothes.
Since this story consists of dialogues, I will act out both Caillou and his mother.
I will try to act out as much as I can perform.
If the students don’t understand the story or they want to listen again, I will tell the story again one more time or twice.
While I am telling the story, a presentation which I have prepared and consists of Caillou’s pictures in order according to the story will be shown behind me.
