Activity Name: Storytelling
Time: 30 minutes
Aims: To make students know the names of the professions and their tools, to gain them the understanding the professions and what they do, in the context, to improve their guessing/predicting abilities.
Procedure:  Teacher enters the call with flashcards and a sack of paper, asks students if they like to play toys or not, what would they do if one of their toys would go missing. And then tells the kids that he has something to tell them today; a story about a kid just like them.  He tells them the kid has a problem, they will see if he can solve it and maybe they can help him finding it. He tells the story till a point and then stops and asks them to guess what would happen. After getting few answers he tells rest of the story. At the end of the story, he asks them again if the story ended as they though if not, asks them why they thought of a different ending.

STORY
Marco is an 8-year old kid. He is studying in the 2nd grade in primary school. Marco has got a lot of toys. He has got racing cars, he has got Legos, and he has got robots but the most important one for him is his football. He loves spending all his time playing with that football. His father bought it for him when he was a baby. One day, Marco goes out to backyard to play football as usual. But he doesn’t see his ball. He is looking everywhere but he doesn’t find it. He asks his mother, she says “I don’t know where it is, honey”. He asks his father but he doesn’t know as well. He decides to go out and he starts asking every person on the street if they know where his ball is. He comes across with the Fireman, Ronnie. He asks him “Ronnie, Do you know where my ball is?” “No, Marco I don’t. I rescue people, I extinguish fire, how can I know where a ball can be” He replies. Marco thanks him and keeps going on wandering streets. Then he sees the Dentist, Patty. “I cannot find my ball, Patty. Do you know where my ball is?” he asks. Patty says “No, Marco. I’m sorry I don’t know where it is. I take care of people’s teeth, how I can know where a ball can be.” He thanks patty as well and keeps going. This time he comes across with his language teacher, Mabel. He asks him if she knows where his ball is. Mabel replies “I’m sorry; I don’t know where your ball is, Marco. You know I teach kids language; French, Greek, German. How I can know where a ball can be. But maybe you can ask Alan, Alan tucker. He may know where your ball is” He thanks Mabel and keeps going on again. He doesn’t know who Alan is. When he is thinking about it, he sees the farmer, Peter. He asks him about his ball too. He tells him that he doesn’t know where his ball is and adds “I deal with animals, I work in field. How can I know where a ball can be? But If I were you, I would ask Alan about it”. He has never heard of his name before. When he sees the tailor, Nigel, he is almost sure that he will also mention about Alan and he is right. Nigel says” I make t-shirts, jackets, I sew things. How can I know where a ball can be? But Alan would probably know of it.” This time, Marco asks him “Do you know where I can find Alan then?” Nigel says Alan mostly spend his time in football pitch. Marco thanks him and this time he is looking for the pitch. He finds it and sees that there is a man there. He approaches him and asks if he knows Alan.  The man says “I am Alan, Alan Tucker, how can I help you?”  He tells him the story and Alan tells him that he may help him about this problem. He goes behind the bench and brings a ball to Marco and tells him “I don’t know where your ball is. But here, you can take it and play with it till you find your ball. Don’t worry I am sure that I will find your ball somehow. I am a footballer, I play football. If anyone in this town would know where a ball can be, it would be me” Marco thanks Alan for the ball and goes back home happily.
