4th Graders Vocabulary Activities Unit 12 Seasons

Textbook:Primary School  English Student’s Book
Grade: 4th
Unit 12: Seasons Weather Conditions
Language Point: Adjectives ( windy,sunny,rainy,cloudy, foggy and snowy)
                                  Nouns   ( summer, spring,fall and winter)

1)PRESENTATION
Materials
Colorful pictures of words to teach
Aim of the activity
 Students’ attention is drawn and they have some information about vocabulary items to be learned thanks to these pictures.
Stages:
ü  The teacher firstly introduces seasons (nouns) and weather conditions (adjectives) with the help of pictures.
ü  Shesuggests the meaning of the words and pronunciation.
ü  She gives the words in context in order to strength the information of vocabulary items.
















2) PRACTICING
1)Matching vocabulary items to pictures
Materials
Colorful pictures of words and pieces of papers written words
Aim of the activity
ü  Students’ learning process will be stronger by being active in classroom.
Stages
ü  The teacher paste pictures and pieces of papers written words to board in a mixed way.

ü  Volunteer students come to the board and match a word to a suitable picture.


2)Missing Word
Aim of the activity
ü  Students’ vocabulary learning will be improve thanks to this activity
Stages
ü  After the teacher  writes the all vocabulary items to the board, she wants students to close their eyes.
ü  And later, she deletes a word and wants students to find the missing word.
ü  This goes on in this way.






3) PROCEDURALIZING
Using Vocabulary Items In Sentences
Aim of the activity
ü  Students will internalize the vocabulary items by creating their own sentences including the related vocabulary items

Stages
ü  The teacher wants students to write their own 10 sentences including the related vocabulary items and s/he gives them 15 minutes.
ü  After they have written the thier own sentences, volunteer students read their sentences and the teacher corrects some points if necessay.
ü  Finally, the teacher asks students to put their sentences to their portfolios.
