Language Point: “Have got / has got, how many?”- Introduction of pets
Materials: song, flashcards, colorful pencils and papers.





NOTICING

Listening to Song

Materials: song about pets
Aim of the activity: Learners’ attention is drawn and they become aware of the topic in this way.

Stages:

  • The teacher shares the enjoyable song about pets with learners.
  • The song also includes common pets’ names.
  • After listening to song, teacher wants them to sing this song together.
  • Teacher asks questions about what they see and also he/she asks “Have you got a …? Has she got a….?” according to video.
  • Then teacher writes some example sentences about topic by drawing pictures on the board. For instance, teacher draws two rabbits and asks “Have you got two rabbits?” Moreover, he/she encourages learners to answer questions with his/her help.

STRUCTURING

Matching activity

Materials: Flashcards
Aim of the activity: Learners improve their critical thinking skills thanks to this activity.
 Learners learn better through social collaboration and cooperation.

Stages

  • The teacher wants learners to become four or five groups.
  •  The teacher hands out each group a flashcard including pets’ pictures.
  •  Each group tries to note features of other groups’ pets briefly and they guess about what it can be through questions such as “Has it got a tail? Has it got four legs?  Etc
  • Teacher gives a plus for each correct answer. A group collecting more plus wins the activity.
  • Teacher can give learners more flashcards and the activity can go on.

PROCEDURALIZING

Drawing activity

Materials:-
Colorful papers and pencils
Aim of the activity:  Learners’ decision making skills are promoted and they become eager to comprehend the topic.
 Learners produce new thing about the topic and the activity provides creativity.

Stages

  • The teacher wants learners to become pairs.
  • One of them asks questions about his/her friend’s favorite pet and tries to draw his / her friend’s favorite pet. Then, other learner answers questions and gives some clues about his /her pet clearly. In addition, learners write three sentences about pet themselves.
  • After, firs learner finishes the work, they change roles. They complete the activity and they share their pets’pictures with other friends
