Language Point: correct pronunciation of pets’ names
Materials: video about pets, flashcards, worksheets


PRESENT

Watching a song video

Materials: a video about pets, flashcards

Aim of the activity: Learners are motivated thanks to the video. Learners become aware of sounds and basic words’ pronunciation.

Stages:
Ø  The teacher wants learners to watch video and to listen to the song.
Ø  The teacher asks them to sing the song together.
Ø  After the video, teacher asks them to tell which animals they see and helps them to predict by using flashcards.
Ø  The teacher puts name of pets on the board and writes name of the pets under the pictures. Then s/he asks learners to repeat the name of the pets.

PRACTICE

 Rhyming words

Materials: worksheets 

Aim of the activity: This activity provides to recognize similarities and differences between sounds.

Stages:
Ø  The teacher explains the activity and gives an example on the board.
Ø  Learners become pairs.
Ø  The teacher asks learners to look pictures on the worksheets and then s/he wants them to write names of the animals in the blanks correctly.
Ø  Learners try to make short sentences by using given rhymes. The teacher encourages learners.
Ø  Volunteers share their rhyming words and teacher write rhyming sentences.
Ø  The teacher pronounces them and learners repeat them all together.
Ø  At last, volunteers try to memorize rhyming words or the teacher asks some learners to say.

Materials: short dialogues

Aim of the activity: To practice the use of intonation and word stress as a way of expressing meaning.

               (a)
A: Have you got a pet?
B: Yes!
A: Is it a cat?
B: No, it isn’t a cat. It is a dog.


                         (b)
A: Have you got two parrots?
B: No, I haven’t. I have a rabbit.
A: What is its name?
B: Sissy.
A: So cute!
B: Thank you!



                          (c)
A: My brother buys a fish for me.
B: Great! What is its color?
A: Blue and pink. Do you want to see it?
B: Yes!



 

                                                            






  


Stages:
Ø  The teacher writes the dialogue on the board or projects it.
Ø  Teacher asks the learners to work in pairs and to try to say utterances in different contexts.
Ø  Finally, teacher asks volunteers to perform one of dialogues in front of the class.
