Unit 9 Farm Life Teaching Speaking

LESSON PLAN                                                                                                                       
LEVEL:5th Grade
SUBJECT: Farm Life (like-dislike )
Activity 1 :Guessing Game (animals ) –‘’ What am I ‘’  
Objectives : 
To provide a realistic context for practicing the pronunciation of specific structures.
Materials :
 Papers ; on which animals’ basic possessions and characters written and video. (an example for guessing game ) (supersimplelearning.com)
1.I am a big farm animal.I have got a lot of milk for children.I like eating green grass.I say “Moo!”. (cow )
2. I have got a long tail.                                        
 I am a strong animal.
 I like running.I say “Neigh” (horse )
3. I am a small animal.
Children like eating my eggs.
I have got two feet.I say “Cluck! Cluck”  (hen )
4. I have got big black eyes. I say “Baa! Baa!
I have got four legs and a lot of wool for your jumpers (sheep )
5.I have got long tail. I have got four legs. I like eating bones. I like playing with children. (dog )
In this activity , first students watch the video ;this video includes the guessing game example for them. Five volunteer students are supposed to be come to the board and each of them takes one paper. Each student reads and asks ‘’ what am I ?’’  One by one, they read their cards and other students guess what it is.

Activity 2: Listening and Repeating a Song
Objectives :
·         To develop memory skills.
·         To provide pronunciation practice
·         To consolidate or introduce new language.(the usage of likes and dislikes)
Materials:
The video ‘I like chicken’ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtLwSMivm2s)
In this activity students listen to the song and watch the video. And then the teacher writes the lyrics on the board. One part likes are written and the other part dislikes are written by students. They are supposed to sing the song after practicing with the teacher. Students may also give examples of their own.Lyrics are: 
I like chicken , I like fish, I like ice-cream
(What’s this?
This is juice.
I don’t like juice )

Activity 3: dialogues and role –play
Objectives:
·         To develop memory skills
·         To extend language use
·         To develop social skills of interaction and turn-taking
·         Students will have a chance to practice likes and dislikes.
Materials:  role cards: 
Dean : My grandparents have got a farm. It is not
very big, but there are a lot of animals.

Daphne : Oh, I like horses very much. Does your
grandfather like horses, too?

Dean : Yes, he does. He has got four horses.

Daphne : Does he like riding a horse?

Dean : No, he doesn’t. My father likes riding a horse.

Daphne : What about your grandmother? Does she
like animals, too?

Dean : Yes, she does. She likes feeding animals, but
her favourite activity is watering flowers.

Daphne : What is your grandfather’s favourite
activity?

Dean : Oh, it is reading. He likes reading in the
evenings.
Students are supposed to perform this dialogue on the board.
Activity 4: Memory Game
Objectives:
·         to develop memory skills.
·         To practice pronunciation
·         To provide hidden pattern  practice
·          To improve concentration and listening & speaking skill.
Materials : board and board marker
The teacher writes on the board these sentences
‘ I go to farm and I see … ‘ 
‘ I like …. ‘ 
‘ I don’t like .... ‘
and here the game starts.
