Unit 9 Farm Life (teaching pronunciation *numbers activities.)

LESSON PLAN                                                                                                                       
LEVEL:4th Grade
SUBJECT: Numbers (Teaching Pronunciation )
OBJECTIVES: 
   1-Students will be able to memorize the true pronunciation of numbers.
   2-Students will have opportunity to learn a new field of vocabulary with numbers.
   3-Students have opportunity to use authentic language.
MATERIALS:
Beginning the lesson: The teacher enters the  class with  cards of number in her hand. She sticks these pictures on the board. These pictures are about numbers and words. The teacher wants to attract the students' attention to the topic and she also shows them the video. (One Two Buckle My Shoe)

Stage 1 : Learning the Numbers
Objectives: to attract students' attention,
                    to engage the topic with their background knowledge about numbers (number cards sticked to the board send a message to children ),
                    to stir them up with the song,
                    to help them learn the new vocabulary items with visual and audial support.
Materials: a short video, number and word charts
Procedure:  After the teacher shows the pictures and introduces the topic, she shows the short video. This video includes numbers from one to twenty. After the students watch the video they also watch the teacher while she introduces the numbers on board.
Stage 2 : Attending to form
Objectives: Students will listen to the song and repeat it together.
                    Students also will listen to the specific pronunciation patterns.
                   Students will be able to memorize numbers easily with the help of words attached to them.
     Stage 3: Pronunciaton practicing, memorizing and checking activities
    Objectives:
  The teacher gives instructions; focusing on specific pronunciation of numbers.
The teacher and the class play ‘Phonics Song from Paul
The aim of the game is make students able to memorize and tell numbers with correct spelling. The teacher shows the number chart and the student on board find the close pronunciation word pattern. (the teachers shows 1-2 chart; the student find ‘buckle my shoe ‘ chart.)
  Stage 4: Consolidating, recycling, extending, organizing, recording and personalizing        vocabulary 
Objectives:  Students will be able to enter these numbers into their long term memory,
                     Students will be able to personalized new vocabulary items and numbers from 1 to 20.
Materials: numbers cards
The student choose one chart (written numbers in one sided; hidden). And he/she shows it to the class (himself doesn’t see ). The class give him a clue of close pronunciation word. ( ıf the number chart is 3-4  ; the class say to him ‘shut the door ‘ as a clue) then the student predicts the number.
Stage 5 : Developing strategies for numbers’ learning with correct pronunciation
Objectives:
Students will be able to become aware of a variety of clues to help guess and predict meaning. (metacognitive strategy ) Students  will be able to use a variety of clues to help them tell the numbers with true spelling.( cognitive strategy )
