Activity 1: pronouncing words
Aims:
·
To
be able to pronounce the word correctly
Procedure: Teacher brings the picture of greengrocer, hospital,
mosque, hairdresser, school, cinema, theatre, library, and bank and sticks on
the board and writes its name under its picture. Meanwhile, teacher asks
students some questions like ‘what is it?’ While writing s/he puts some signs
on the word where they make stress. For example, teacher says ‘hospital’ by
showing his/ her mouth movement and while writing she puts a marker ‘hospital’ and wants students to repeat.
Activity 2: rhythmic sentences
Aims:
·
To
understand the pronunciation of the word from the rhythm
·
To
remember the word from its pronunciation
Procedure:
teacher writes 9 nine sentences on the board
which are rhythmic and have blanks.
- When you go to ………, they will give you a needle.(hospital)
- If you love the books sincerely, you can go to…………(library)
- Use the scissor in the ……….(hairdresser)
- Be cool in the …………..(school)
- I am waiting with my all heart on the corner of the …………..(restaurant)
- I write a letter when I miss then I go to ………….(post office)
- Muslims have a task : they go to …………(mosque)
- When you want to buy fruits in the city center, you go to ……….(greengrocer)
- My uncles thank when my father gives them money from ……..(bank)
Then, teacher wants students to guess which word is suitable for blanks.
Students do this with the help of similar pronunciation of words. For example;
thank- bank.
Activity 3: mouth movements
Aims:
·
To
catch words from mouth movements
Procedure: Firstly,
teacher pronounces a word which is written on the board silently and students
try to guess which word is said. If they know and produce correctly, teacher
gives a candy to them. After that teacher choose a volunteer student and want
him/her to do as/he did.
