TIME

Part II - ACTIVITIES

NOTICING

Aims:

Ø  To prepare them to learn the day’s subject
Ø  To teach them to ask  ‘ where is it?’ and to teach to answer by using ‘It is ….’
Ø  Make them aware of what means of prepositions generally.
Ø  To teach them ‘‘in, on, at, under, behind, next, in front of, between’

Materials: A video from http://www.youtube.com/ which name is ‘In On Under - Kids English Kindergarten Songs

Prodecure:

Teacher shows a video about preposition which name is’ In On Under - Kids English Kindergarten Songs. This video includes some common prepositions such as ‘in, on, at, under, behind, next, in front of, between.’ In the video, there is a rabbit asking questions ‘Where is the mouse?’ by showing its picture and children reply the questions by using prepositions for instance they say: ‘the mouse is in the house.’ Firstly, they listen only its lyrics without watching video. So, pupils try to catch some prepositions and write them down. Then, teacher hands out its lyrics and open the video. This time pupils both see and listen the songs and compare his/her own preposition. After they watch the video, teacher and students make some practices about prepositions by asking ‘Where is it? For example teacher puts the book on the table asks ‘Where is the book? And students reply ‘It is on  the table.’ Thus, students become aware of prepositions and their usage.
 (re)STRUCTURING

Aims:
Ø  To help students understand the topic better
Ø  Make more practices about prepositions
Ø  To make students active while they are learning

Materials: A poster about prepositions

Procedure:

Teacher does an activity on the board which contains 8 prepositions which are commonly used such as in, on, at, under, behind, next, in front of, between.’ Teacher sticks picture on the board and in the picture we have ‘John’ who has lost his toys and ask for help from us to find out his toys. Each of pictures contains preposition photograph and its sentences under it but blanks of prepositions are empty so that pupils fill the correct prepositions. For instance, ‘the ball is             the table (on)’. The answers of them are also written on another carts and teacher sticks them on the board. Teacher asks question ‘Where are John’s car, toy, umbrella, van, plane, ball, puzzle and bear? Teacher asks these questions one by one and pupils try to find out where John things are by using prepositions and put the prepositions in the blanks. Whoever makes correctly class applaud him/her.  Finally, they complete the 8 prepositions correctly. Thus, students are more conscious about prepositions by using them in sentences on their own and understand their usage in a sentence.

 PRODECURALIZING
Aims:
   Ø  Improve students’ speaking skills
   Ø  Produce students own sentences

Materials: Brain storm technique

Prodecure:

Teacher again uses the board but this time s/he wants students to make brain storming about what they learn today and write them down.  Then teacher asks ‘children, where are your toys/ things at home? Let’s think about it! And teacher gives 3 minutes to think and write. Teacher starts firstly. ‘For example, my laptop is on the table’ s/he says. Then s/he asks students same questions and they reply where their things are. Thus, teacher evaluate whether they learn the topic or not.
