Lesson :English
Grade : 5
Unit : Personal Possessions –occupations
Techniques: story telling , asking –answering – role play –
Aims: To able to  enjoy the  story telling activity
To be able to learn some occupations via story
To able to  make a guess about what happens in the story.
To be able to create positive attitudes toward learning
To be able to develop cultural awareness
To be able to  understand the story  with dialogues ,repetitions
to be  able to understand unknown words  in a certain  context.
1.      Pre-story telling

Activity : Teacher asks  students  which occupations they remember . He shows the flashcards that he will use for story telling .Students  say what they remember  about these occupations. He explains what they will do  in the lesson and says  that  he will tell 'the  shoemaker and  the elves ' .He asks   them  about whether they  know this story or not . As to their knowledge about the  story  , he  starts to   tell the story.

2.      Procedure

Activity: Teacher  starts to tell the story  He uses  mimics , gestures , body movements. He   gives attention to  pronunciation and intonation. In dialogues , he  tries to  disguise his own voice to act as a character. For some parts, teacher   asks students  to guess ‘ What will happen  next?, students   try to guess  . It increases the creativity of students. Dialogues and repetitions are repeated by teacher and students to  reach the aims of the   story telling . Pictures and flashcards help students visualize the story .  At the same time , the slide show is  going at the same speed with teacher. After  teacher  finishes the story telling ,she passes the  comprehension questions. He asks ‘ who are the characters ?, where does it take place ? who is your character , why ? how  does the story end ?  how do they solve the problem?,which occupations  do you hear?( to answer this questions, students take notes  the occupations they hear while listening ).what is the theme of the story ?’

Post  -story telling

Activity: After  students  listen the story and cover up the parts they don’t understand . Teacher wants students  to make groups .Each  group  picks a  paper on which two  jobs are written   and   they  make  a dialog or  they can  write an alternative  part instead..  This activity  helps them think in creative way and  thus , there will be many different changing parts  of the story .  Before  that , students   do brainstorming about  what they can write. Later ,they start to  write their tasks .At the same time , teacher  helps them whenever they need. After  they finish their tasks , teacher  wants them  do role play  in line with their own parts  of the  story which are their tasks before. Each   group   plays the tasks they create. They can  use  the materials ,  flashcards , pictures , whatever  they own. After they display their performances, each group is evaluated by  other groups. The group that  takes the highest point  becomes the  winner.
