LEVEL: 5TH GRADE

SUBJECT: UNİT 5 SCHOOL STORES (teaching vocabulary)

1) NOTICING
Materials: PowerPoint presentation, video

Aim of the activity:
Students’ attention is drawn and they can be aware of stationary items.
They learn their names via song.

Activity 1:
Beginning to the lesson: the teacher starts the lesson with the PowerPoint presentation. Teacher attracts students’ attention to the topic. Thanks to visual aids of presentation, students may have a picture in their minds.

2) STRUCTURING
Materials: pictures and their names,
 

 

Aim of the activity:
Students will match the names with pictures so that they can learn the names of items

Activity 2:
Using pictures for matching activity

Teacher puts pictures stationary items on the board and puts the names on the table. A student comes and takes a name and puts it under the picture. It can also be used for group activity. For instance teacher divides into the students two or three groups. One student of each group comes to the board and, teacher shows a picture from the board. They go to the table and take the card and put under the picture. The fastest one wins like a competition. This game can be very enjoyable and beneficial for students.
  
3) PROCEDURALIZING
Materials: A worksheet

Students fill the worksheet and share their answers.

Aim of the activity
Students’ decision making skills are fostered and they reinforce their learning about the topic.
Teacher can check whether they understand the topic or not.
Teacher may diagnose their weaknesses.
