LEVEL: 5TH GRADE
SUBJECT: UNIT 5 SCHOOL STORES (teaching grammar)

1) NOTICING
Materials: videos

Aim of the activity:
  • They learn usage of how much/how many via song.
  • Students will be aware of countable and uncountable nouns and use of how much/many

Activity 1:
Beginning to the lesson: the teacher starts the lesson with videos. Teacher attracts students’ attention to the topic. Videos may help students to get a picture in their minds.


2) STRUCTURING
Materials: PowerPoint presentation, board

Activity 2:
Aim of the activity:
  • Students’ attention is drawn and they can be aware of using how much/how many.
  • Seeking and giving information about numbers, quantities, countable- uncountable nouns
Teacher explains the differences between many and much such as how much is used for uncountable nouns, and how many is used for countable nouns via PowerPoint presentation. Teacher writes some examples about topic on the board.

Activity 3:
Materials: Flashcards

Aim of the activity:
  • Students uses structures what they learnt in a dialogue.
Teacher gives a flashcard to each student. Students work in pairs. For instance, student A has the picture of mobile phone; Student B asks “-how much is this mobile phone? -500 TL”. After they prepare their dialogues, they share with the classmates.

3) PROCEDURALIZING
Materials: A worksheet
Students fill the worksheet and share their answers.

Aim of the activity
Students’ decision making skills are fostered and they reinforce their learning about the topic.
Teacher can check whether they understand the topic or not.
Teacher may diagnose their weaknesses.
