5th Grade Unit 3 Cities Storytelling

STORYTELLING PLAN

Unit: 3 / Cities

Grade: 5

Language Points: Giving directions (“Where is the….?” structure) and prepositions (in, in front of, between, next to, behind etc.)

Materials: Puppet, story map worksheet, puppet booth, stick puppets, colorful cards

Pre-storytelling Activity:

Aims:
       ·         To attract students attention
       ·         To prepare students to story 
       ·         To introducing the story for students

Procedure: Teacher sits back of the puppet booth. She starts to talk with students with her puppet. She asks some questions such as “How are you? Do you like stories?” And she gives some information about the story then she starts telling story.


While-Storytelling:

Aims:
       ·         To listening story carefully
       ·         To understanding story
       ·         To learn how to give direction and how to use prepositions in order to give direction 
       ·         To become aware of pronunciations of words

Procedure: Teacher starts to tell story. She uses some stick puppets while telling story.

Story:

THE CURIOUS RABBIT

            Once upon a time there is a rabbit. Her name is Pamuk. She is very curious rabbit. She lives in the zoo. One day she gets bored in the zoo and she goes to the city to see some places. She jumps jumps through the street and she sees a big shopping center on her right. She jumps jumps through the street again and she sees a dog. She asks the dog “Where is the museum?” and the dog answers “Go through the street and turn left. It is next to the restaurant.” She jumps jumps through the street and turn left. She sees the museum next to the restaurant. She jumps jumps through the street and she sees a cat. She asks “Where is the hotel?” and the cat answers “Go through the street. It is in front of the police station.” She jumps jumps through the street and she sees police station behind the hotel.” She jumps jumps through the street. She sees a bird and asks “Where is the fire station?” The bird answers “Go through the street. It is between post office and stadium.” She jumps jumps through the street and sees the fire station. She gets tired and she jumps jumps through the street and she turns back to the zoo.

Post-Storytelling Activities:

Aims:
        ·         To attract students’ attention with colorful cards
        ·         To understand the story by putting in order the story
        ·         To become aware of characters and setting of the story

Procedure: First teacher gives some colorful cards to students which are written sentences from the story and they put the sentences in an order on the board. After they put the sentences, a caterpillar occurs on the board. After first activity, teacher gives students story map worksheets. They fill the worksheets and answer together.
