5th Grade Unit 10 Cartoon Characters Storytelling Activities


Grade:  5

Subject: Cartoon characters

Materials: a story which is created by teacher, cartoon characters pictures, worksheets about the story

Aims:

·         Students learn cartoon characters name.
·         The story is effective because it is interesting activity for them.
·         They see ‘like’ and ‘dislike’ forms.
·         They imagine cartoon characters adventure thanks to different usage.

PRE-STORYTELLING
Teacher enters the class and asks his students about cartoon characters. Then, he asks whether students like listening to story or not. Which story do they know? He asks. Afterwards, teacher says that he wants to share his story willingly. He asks students what the story about. After a few answers, teacher shows his story on the screen.


STORYTELLING
Teacher should memorize it before. If he doesn’t memorize it, his performance may not be perfect. Teacher starts to tell his story. While he is telling the story, he must have effective voice. While he is using his voice, he must be careful his pronunciation and intonation. Sometimes, he increases and fall his voice. It changes according to story. Also, with helping of pictures on the story, students think the story is interesting and fun.

POST-STORYTELLING
Having shared the story, he gives hand-outs his students. First activity is about the story. The activity measures students’ understanding. Some sentences are given in their paper. They have to find out chronological line. Last activity measures student’s imagination. It requires students produce a product by themselves.
