5th Grade Unit 1 My Country Teaching Speaking Activies

LESSON: ENGLISH

CLASS: 5TH  GRADES

UNIT ONE: MY CITY/MY COUNTRY

Beginning the lesson:
            The teacher starts the lesson with a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9PsgBhtsnE ) (This video includes simple conversation patterns such as ‘’What is your name, Where are you from ? and answers such as ‘’my name is ….’’ and ‘’I’m from ….’’ . The teacher tells students to watch the video carefully. The teacher tells students that they will perform role plays on board. The students will make role plays after watching the video. The aims of the video :
      1         To provide fluency practice
      2         To extend language use
             3         Develop social skills of interaction and turn-taking



After watching the video two times:
     1         Students will be able to act out dialogues
     2         Students will be able to use real language
     3         Students will be able to memorize simple conversation patterns.
     4        Students will have chance to build up their self-confidence

Ending the lesson:
            After watching the video , the teacher handouts role cards which have the conversation patterns used in video. Students act out what is written on cards. Students perform and practice these patterns.
