Meeting new friends (countries / my country)

GRADE:  5th Grade

ACTIVITY: Storytelling

                    Keloğlan’s adventure

MATERIALS:

Pictures, Role-play cards


 




Aims : Vocabulary point

           

            Students learn words that they will use while meeting a  friend. Such as(name, surname,nationality)

            Students will learn what kind of questions they will ask when they will meet a new friend ,but  they will learn also words.Questions like (what is your name?,where are you from? ,what  nationality are you?)

 

  Aims of language areas:

SStudents will be aware of some collocations, chunks, formulaic expressions that they will use while meeting a new friend. (what is your name? where are you from? What nationality are you? Nice to meet you..)

  Students learn am/is/are structure in the chunks .The main aim is here to teach students am /is/are structure in the chunksWe don’t teach am/is/are structure directly but in chunks.

 

Psychological Aims:

 

The main aim is creating a stress free environment.

They will be more willing to learn.

Learning will be more fun.

Usage  of pictures.authantic materials and mimics ,gestures will effect learning in a positive way  .

 

 

Cognitive Aims:

 

 Students  will be able to meet a new friend and they will know what to do.l mean they will know how to behave and they will know what to speak.

They will meet a new friend and will act in ront of the class.with role –play activity they will use language interactive way.

They will learn  about frienship.

 

 

 

STORYTELLING STAGE

 

                  Activity: Telling the story of Keloğlan’s adventure.

                  Aims:

Get attention to ‘am,is,are’ structure.

       Teaching ‘am,is,are’ structure in the chunks.

       Meeting friends and be able to introduce yourself.

      To attract student’s attention and motivate them for learning.

      Raising student’s awareness for learning.

      Making learning enjoyable and fun.

 

              Materials:

The pictures of characters (Keloğlan , Superman,Nasrettin hoca ,Santa claus)

 

 

PROCEDURE

 Teacher gets into to class and greets students. Then says that he will tell them an interesting story.After that,teacher starts to tell the story by using gestures, mimics and by the help of pictures.

 

                                

                                              KELOĞLANS ADVENTURE

Once upon a time there is a boy whose name is keloğlan.He likes sleeping  so much and he sleeps one day . In his dream ;he walks, walks, walks ….walks and he comes to America.

He sees something flying in the sky.At first ;he supposes it is a bird but it isnt a bird.Guesswhat it is?

          He is superman.Superman says ,:

Superman :Hi, stranger what is your name?

Keloğlan: my name is keloğlan.

Superman:Where are you from keloğlan?

Keloğlan: l come from turkey.

Superman:How old are you keloğlan?

Keloğlan: l am 10 years old.

Superman:What nationality are you?

Keloğlan: l am turkish.

Superman :Nice to meet you, keloğlan.

Keloğlan: Nice to meet you ,too ,superman.

         Superman likes keloğlan so much and they be friends.One day they fly, fly, fly ….fly and they come to the nort pole.Guess who is there? Keloğlan meets  Santa claus (noel baba there).

             Santa claus says:

 Santa claus :Hi, stranger what is your name?

Keloğlan: my name is keloğlan.

Santa claus:Where are you from keloğlan?

Keloğlan: l come from turkey.

Santa claus:How old are you keloğlan?

Keloğlan: l am 10 years old.

Santa claus:What nationality are you?

Keloğlan: l am turkish.

Santa claus:Nice to meet you, keloğlan.

Keloğlan: Nice to meet you ,too ,Santa claus.

 Santa claus likes keloğlan so much and gives him a nice toll.Then keloğlan walks walks walks… walks. Guess where he comes ? he comes to konya  and meets there Nasrettin hoca.

    Nasrettin hoca says;

Nasrettin hoca:Hi, stranger what is your name?

Keloğlan: my name is keloğlan.

Nasrettin hoca:Where are you from keloğlan?

Keloğlan: l come from turkey.

Nasrettin hoca :How old are you keloğlan?

Keloğlan: l am 10 years old.

Nasrettin hoca:What nationality are you?

Keloğlan: l am turkish.

Nasrettin hoca:Nice to meet you, keloğlan.

Keloğlan: Nice to meet you ,too ,Nasrettin hoca.

Nasrettin hoca likes keloğlan so much and tells him ‘ would you like to ride my donkey’?.Then keloğlan rides Nasrettin hoca’s donkey and they goes ,goes,goes….. Guess where keloğlan comes ? he comes to his home and her mother wakes him up because it is a dream.

 

 

 

POSTSTORY-TELLING ACTIVITIES

 

 

Activity:  role-play

 

Aim:

     Student’s active participation.

     Students practice ‘am,is,are’structure in the chunks.

     Students will be able to introduce themselves.

     They will be able ask questions to know someone.   (What is your name?,What is your surname?,How old are you?,What nationality are you?,Where are you from?)

     Students internalize the given forms.

Materials:   Role-play cards. These cards will include the following informations.All will be different not the same cards.

How old are you?
What nationality are you? 
Where are you from?       
     

         

Procedure:

          1)      Two voluntary students are called to the board.

          2)        They choose role-play cards.One of them gets the question card and the other one choose information card.

          3)      According to the role play cards that they have choosen, they play their role in front of the class.

4)      At this part,teacher shouldn’t interrupt students ıf it is not necessary while playing their role.

5)      They will meet a new friend and they will use the instructions.
