teaching grammar unit 1 new friends 5 grades


                          Teaching grammar

Class: 5

Unit: 1 (Countries,my country)

                                            Noticing

Aims:

       Get attention to ‘am,is,are’ structure.

       Teaching ‘am,is,are’ structure in the chunks.

       Meeting friends and be able to introduce yourself.

      To attract student’s attention and motivate them for learning.

      Raising student’s awareness for learning.

      Making learning enjoyable and fun.

Activities: Puppet show


Materials: Puppets

        Procedure:

Teacher enters the class with a box which includes two puppets.Students wonder about ‘what is this box?’.Then teacher opens the box and wear the puppets on his hands.Shows them to students and the puppets start to talk each other.

   Tracy—Hello! my name is tracy.What is your name?

   Adem--- Hi , my name is Adem.

   Tracy---Nice to meet you.

   Adem--- Nice to meet you too, Tracy.

   Tracy----Where are you from?

   Adem---l am from turkey.l am Turkish and where are you from?

   Tracy---l am from ıtaly.l am an ıtalian girl.

                        

 

 

 

           Structuring

Aim:

     Student’s active participation.

     Students practice ‘am,is,are’structure in the chunks.

     Students will be able to introduce themselves.

     They will be able ask questions to know someone.   (What is your name?,What is your surname?,How old are you?,What nationality are you?,Where are you from?)

     Students internalize the given forms.

Materials:   Role-play cards. These cards will include the following informations.All will be different not the same cards.

How old are you?
What nationality are you?

Procedure:

1)      Two voluntary students are called to the board.

2)      They choose role-play cards.One of them gets the question card and the other one choose information card.

3)      According to the role play cards that they have choosen, they play their role in front of the class.

4)      At this part,teacher shouldn’t interrupt students ıf it is not necessary while playing their role.

5)      They will meet a new friend and they will use the instructions.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

                                  Proceduralisation

 

Aims:

Students produce their own sentences by using the structures that they have learnt during the class.

Students make their own sentences and they will be able to introduce themselves or someone else.

Students will  practice ‘am/is/are’ structure.

Materials:
 
 

You will introduce yourself with the following                        questions:
What is your name ?
What is your surname?
How old are you?
What nationality are you?
Where are you from?

Instruction papers about what and how they will prepare their homework.

You will introduce your father /your mother  with the following questions:
What is your father /mother name ?
What is your father/mother surname?
How old is he/she ?
What nationality is he / she ?

Procedure:

Teacher demands from the students to introduce themselves and their parents with a written dialogue.

At the next class teacher checks what they have done J
