TEACHING VOCABULARY
Lesson : English
Language Point : My Favorite Activities
Aim :
Ø  to provide students with  gaining the ability to convey the meaning of a word by pictures.
Ø  to structure it strongly through exercises, activities ,games.
Ø  to make students produce these words in real life situations.

Materials: board, pictures, power point presentation, picture cards
Power Point Presentation :  https://docs.google.com/file/d/0By0M0khxHGASeEkzRUhKUFNYWGc/edit?usp=sharing

Noticing
Aim : to appeal student’ attention and make  them ready to learn.
Ø  First, teacher sticks some pictures to the board without saying anything to attract students’ attention. Thus; students worry what teacher is doing and watch her.
Ø  Second, she tells what will happen in this lesson and, what they will learn. She shows the power point presentation she has already prepared for students. They listen for once. There, words are combined with associated pictures.
Ø  Third, teacher pauses the presentation in each slide and makes students repeat the word written under the picture. They repeat loudly. This happens two times.
Ø  Next, teacher shows only pictures stuck on the board and asks students ‘what is it?’Students remember the answer because they have a picture in their schemata now and say the words.
Ø  Finally, teacher asks students whether there is something they have not understood. If it is, she explains it again.

Structuring
Ø  First, teacher shows a picture on the board and students say what it is, second teacher says what the word is and students come to board and show which picture it is.
Ø  Next, teacher calls a student to the board. She asks her meaning of any of the pictures. The student answers it. Then, this time student selects one of her friends, s/he stands up and the other shows heir/him a picture. If s/he gives the correct answer s/he comes to the board and asks the other questions. The question chain goes on like that. Thus; students’ active participation is provided.
Ø  Then, teacher distributes cards on one side of which there is picture and on the back side of which there is the meaning of word. Students work in pairs. They show the picture and ask what it is to the one who is sitting near them. Thus, they correct each other.
Proceduralising
Ø  Teacher asks students for preparing their own vocabulary book, in other words dictionary book.
Ø  She tells how they will do it .They will cut some pictures and get stuck it on a notebook and they will write their meanings near the picture. Thus, they will have their own dictionaries and will look at it up whenever they need.
