An Activity  For Practicing Pronunciation
1.      Writing Words with The Same Sound
Grade : 5th Grade
Unit: Like/Dislike
Target words that are supposed to be learned: bananas, butter, carrot, cake, coffee, cucumber, pumpkin, peppers, potatoes, bread, chicken, cheese, chips, orange
Aims:
1.      The aim of this activity is to make students be aware of some words beginning with the same sound.
2.      Students will be able to compare these words based on their initial sounds thanks to this activity.
Materials:
Some pictures of boys and girls with the names of them written under the pictures.

Procedures:
1.      Teacher says they will play a game, so she shows a picture where there is a boy whose name is “Jack” , and she sticks the picture to the board.
2.      Then, she talks about what he likes. However, there is a rule which is that these things Jack likes should start with the same sound /dz/  For example, she says Jack likes jam. She writes the words on the board after she pronounces them.
3.      Thirdly, she divides students into 4 groups and she says she will distribute some characters whose names are written under the pictures. (The names of these characters are Kate, Paul, Betty, Charlie. )
4.      After that, she asks students to think of all the fruits and vegetables they have learned , but these fruits and vegetables should begin with the same sound of their character’s name.
5.      She gives 5 minutes to think and write the fruits and vegetables as a group. Then each group will come to the board , and stick the pictures and write the words.  The group writing more words correctly will win.
6.      After all groups present, she will pronounce all words that students have written on the board .

We can modify the game.  Students can find words including the same sound ( it can be in the middle or in the end ) In addition, we can use this activity for all units.

                                                                     JACK
