ACTIVITIES ABOUT REGIONS
NOTICING PART:
Puppets:
Aim: The aim of this activity to take attention of the
children. In order to make students to take part the class and have an idea
about it, this activity is done. As they listen to the puppets they will have
idea about the region of Turkey.
Materials: To make the puppets, I use two socks, some papers,
colorful pencils and adhesive. There
should be a projector machine that the pictures about Erzurum and İzmir will be
shown on the board.
Procedure: The teacher comes the class as his hands on his pocket
and he asks students “how are you? What did you do at the weekend? The students
answer and then he says that he sees his friend at weekend and his friends want
to come to the class and meet with his students. The teacher put off the
puppets from his pockets and they say “Hi” to the class and then two puppets
have conversation. One of them whose name is
Baran:
Baran : How are you?
Eylül: I am fine and you.
Baran: Thank you
Eylül: Where were you last weekend?
Baran: I went Erzurum to visit my grandparents.
Eylül: What ? Where is Erzurum.
Baran: Don’t you know? Erzurum is Eastern Anatolia Region. It is colder
than İzmir.
Eylül: Does the climate change according to the climate.
Baran: Of course.
After this dialog, teacher says that today our topic is regions.
STRUCTIRING PART:
Dialogues:
Aims: The aim of this activity is to know how much the
students learn the region and their geographical features and how they don‘t
understand topic of the region .
Materials: For this I need a dialog which is about the regions
that the students will read. There should be a computer and projector machine
that the dialog will be shown on the board. There are some pictures about the
major city of the region.
Procedure: After noticing activity, it is time to know how much
the students learn about the regions. They become two groups. When students
read the dialog, other students listen to them silently. The teacher should
provide almost all of the students to read the dialogues, because we can see
how they pronounce the words and we keep them to take part the class. If we
have a large class, we can’t make all students to read, so a few of the
students read it. This activity helps students to be ready for the
proceduarilising activity.
PROCEDUARILISING:
Letter:
Aim: The aim of this activity is to evaluate whether the
students learn the regions and their features. We can learn it by giving them
letter homework, If they can write correctly the important city and feature of
the region and they don’t make mistakes about region, we can say that they
learn and they have idea about what the region and their features.
Materials: For this activity, we use the project machine to reflect
the letter on the board.
Procedure: After the dialog activity, teacher passes the
proceduarilising activity. In this process, the teacher shows a sample of the
letter to his students.
DEAR LISA
I’m in Izmir. It is a nice city. It is in the
Aegean Region of Turkey. There are many mountains and rivers in İzmir. There is a
sea. You can swim. It is a beautiful place. It is a crowded city
LOVE
CANSU
After they read the letter, teacher wants them to write a letter like
that. The students try to write the letter that they will introduce their
region and city to their pen friend. They look the words and the sentences from
the letter and they improve their writing skills, but the teacher says them not
to copy paste. They can do this activity in the class or can do it in the home,
both of them are possible. If they do it in the class, the teacher can control
them in the class, but if they do this activity at home teacher controls them
next week. This activity shows whether the students can learn the subject or
not. In this activity we can see the student’s instant produce of the language,
because in this stage they can produce the language themselves, because they
write a letter and they do it themselves. After the homework the teacher
finishes the lesson.
