DENİZ TEKİN
Lesson: English

Subject: speaking activity

Duration: 60 min

Materials: teacher prepared charts.

Example charts:

Two close friends. One of you has got a cold.

Use these words: bed, mint and lemon, doctor.

A teacher and a student. The student has got a headache.

Use these words: home, parents, painkillers.

AIMS:
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to use the vocabulary items of the unit for communicative purposes. They will be asking and answering questions about health.

PROCEDURE:

Firstly as a warm up activity the teacher wants students to guess the illnesses she imitates. So the students will prepare themselves to speak. The teacher also draws their attention to specific structures like should. The teacher imitates someone who has got a stomachache. Students will find out it first. Then they will give an advice as “you should eat soup.” After some teacher directed practice the teacher finishes the activity and passes a new activity.

For the second activity the teacher needs charts to distribute the class. Students will prepare role plays according to their charts and show it to the class. The teacher gives the charts to the pairs and waits them to prepare good dialogs. 10-15 min can be given fort he preparation. The students have some key vocabulary on charts and they also can use their dictionaries. After they finish preparing the dialogs, they have 2 minutes to practice it loudly. Then the teacher will watch their performances.
