                                                                                                                     Cansel İŞLEK 10131044

Lesson:           English
Grade:            5th

Subject:          Personal possessions – Professionals and their tools

Time:              40 minutes
Materials:       Puppet, pictures of some professions and their tools
Aims:              To learn the professions
                        To learn their tools
Engage students in the learning process
                        Learning possessive pronouns

Noticing:
The teacher enters the classroom and has a little box in his hands. Afterwards he takes the puppet out of the box and begins to use it. By using the puppet the teacher gives some information about some professions and their tools. While speaking the teacher stresses the possessive pronouns. Then the teacher/puppet asks some questions to the students about things they posses. A conversation between student and teacher should be created.

Structuring:
The teacher hangs up some pictures of some professions on the board and gives names to them. Then he hangs up some tools. In the next step he matches one of the tools with a profession and gives a sentence as an example: ‘He is John. It is his pencil’. After writing this sentence on the board he matches other two pictures and gives another example: ‘She is Anna. It is her calculator’ and writes this on the board as well. This will help the students to get the main idea. Lastly, the teacher asks the students to match the other pictures and to write the appropriate pictures.

Proceduralizing:
The students work in pairs. They have to ask questions to each other. Student A asks questions just like ‘Is it your notebook?’ and Student B answers the question just like ‘Yes, it is my notebook’ or ‘No, it isn’t my notebook’. After a while they reverse roles. While students are doing this activity the teacher walks around and helps them if it is necessary.
At the end of the lesson the teacher gives a worksheet for homework. With help of this homework the students will have the opportunity to practice at home.
