5th grade, Unit 10 Cartoon Characters, Teaching Speaking Activities


                                               LESSON PLAN

Grade:                       5
Subject:                     Cartoon characters
Materials:                  flash cards including cartoon characters’ picture and food pictures.

Aims:
1- ) Students will communicate in the target language,
2- ) Students will create their own sentences about target language,
3- ) Students will recognize the features of cartoon characters by describing them.
4- ) Students will work both in pairs and in collaborative way.

ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES 
Activity 1:
Aims;
      1- ) Students will communicate in the target language,
2- ) Students will describe their flash cards to their partner,
3- ) Students will work with a partner,
       4- ) Students will describe the cartoon characters by respecting each other.
Activity: Before the activity, teacher asks ‘how are you today?’ then she asks ‘ do you like playing games? Do you like playing game Ayşe? Do you like playing game Mehmet? Does Ayşe like playing game Cansel? And so on.  Students work in pairs. Each of them has a partner. Teacher gives them different cards. It may be a cartoon character or a food. Students mustn’t show their cards to their partners so all of them describe their cards to their partners. One of them is speaker and the other is listener. When one completes his or her job, second one continues.
Activity 2:
Aims;
1- ) Students will speak in the target language,
2- ) Students will work in groups,
3- ) students will describe cartoon characters,
4- ) Students will learn how to behave in a competition and group work.
Activity: Students are divided into two groups. The first group is A and the second group is B. Teacher gives different cards to each student and they will play a game. Each member from each group describes his or her cards to his or her own group then other group members try to guess what she has. They have only 3 chances to find the correct character or food. If the same group finds the correct answer, the teacher gives a plus to them or if the same group doesn’t find the correct answer, other group gains a plus.
