THE NUMBER GAME

Aim: The aim of this activity is to make students realize the numbers from twenty to sixty. After this activity students should be aware of the fact that some numbers have similar sounds but totally different functions such as fourteen and forty.

Language Point: Pronunciation of numbers from twenty to sixty

Materials: - A board marker and a whiteboard (a chalk and a blackboard are possible)
                  - Listening tracks (http://www.englishnumber.com/english-numbers/two-figure-numbers/english-number-2-figures.html)
                  - A flash disk
                  - Pc
                  - Speaker

Techniques: Listening comprehension

Time: 5 minutes

Procedure: First of all, teacher comes to classroom and introduces the new topic after having a short conversation with students. Teacher writes mixed numbers from one to sixty on the board like a crossword (one under the other and side by side) but not all of them (1,29,38,44,50, etc.). Then, the teacher reads all of the numbers one by one with clarifying the important points such as numbers which have similar sounds ( thirteen and thirty). After that, the teacher arranges the class in two or three groups according to the size of the class. The teacher writes three group name on one side of the board and underlines the names (A, B, C). He or she explains the rules of the activity, as follows: The teacher opens a listening track on pc and asks for a volunteer student. Then, one volunteer student will come to the board and circles with the marker the number which is said in the listening track. If the student circles the right number, he or she will gain one point for his or her group. The student who gains the point will write the point on the board after the teacher says it is correct. (If it is false, then the student or the group will not gain any point.) After the listening tracks finish, the teacher looks at the points. Which group gains the highest, they will be the winner.
