Speaking Activity

Grade: 4
Unit: 8, My Weekly Schedule
Activity: speaking by using puppets
Aim: One of the aims is to draw students’ attention by using puppets, because young learners are highly interested in toys, so the puppets will draw their attention. The other aim is that students can speak about the topic of the unit by using relevant patterns such as “What is your favorite subject? or How many lessons have you got on Monday?”. The last aim is that students feel relax while speaking. When they make mistakes they may think that the puppet make the mistake; so they do not worry about making mistakes while speaking, they can practice the speaking in a stress-free environment.

Materials: Puppet, Powerpoint Presentation

Procedure:
  • First, the teacher shows a sample dialogue in the Powerpoint presentation. Then, she shows how to speak with the puppet. She speaks the dialogue with the puppet.
  • Students who want to speak come in front of the class and speaks the same dialogue with the puppets.
  • Then, the teacher asks them to create their own diologue about the weekly schedule by using relevant patterns. They study in pairs. They will create a dialogue in this way:
  • How many lessons have you got this week?
    I have got eight lessons
Ohh really! What lessons have you got?
