4th grade unit 4 my clothes vocabulary activities

VOCABULARY TEACHING

LESSON: ENGLISH
CLASS: 4TH GRADE
UNIT: CLOTHES

Stage 1: Understanding and learning the meanings of the new words

ACTIVITY: Watching a video.


MATERIALS:

 Video: Clothes vocabulary -1- sentences by ELF Learning
( clothes vocabulary www.youtube.com/watch?v=taoCF1cKZSY)

AIM:  It is an activity to show and teach clothes and their names at the beginning of the lesson. The video will call students’ attention to the clothes. Students will start to understand the clothes. They will have chance to see the written forms of the clothes with colors and sentences at the end of the video.

PROCEDURE:
§  At the beginning of the lesson, I will show them a video consisting of clothes.
§  The video will be interesting for the students. I mean that it will be colorful and funny.
§  The video will show clothes at the beginning. After saying one time, it will repeat one more time. At the end of the video, it will repeat with the sentences.
§  They will start to understand usage of the clothes in English.

Stage 2: Attending to form

ACTIVITY: Listening and repeating

MATERIALS: Some colorful clothes cards.





AIM: Students will reinforce what they have learned from the video. They will see writings of the words and repeat them.

PROCEDURE:
§  I will show the cards one by one. While showing, I will tell their names.
§  I will make students repeat clothes names after me.
§  I will stick them on the board one by one after students’ repeating. After sticking, I will write their names under the cards.

Stage 3: Vocabulary practicing, memorizing and checking activities

ACTIVITY:  Labeling

MATERIALS: The cards which I used in last activity and small cards which names of the clothes are written.

 AIM: Students will combine what they have learned in this activity. By matching, students will develop their knowledge about the topic. They will learn by doing and being active. They will have chance for reinforcement.

PROCEDURE:
§  I will clean the board. I will change the places of the cards on the board.
§  I will choose students one by one. They will come and choose a picture on the board and try to find their writings cards on the desk.
§  After choosing the written card, they will show it to their friends. If it is true matching, they will stick them under the pictures. If it is not the true card, they will change and try to find the true card with our help. They will label the cards.
