EAKBALIKCI/Noticing part/PPT
Aim:
The purpose in this activity is enable
students to predict the new subject and see the basic people in a family. This
activity focuses on speaking and writing skills. Watching a power point
presentation about the family helps students to be aware of the subject and
they can take notes of new vocabulary during the power point presentation
process. The main purpose is to encourage students to anticipate the general
meaning and to involve them actively and personally in the learning process for
developing self-confidence.
Materials:
- Students’ notebook (students take notes while they are watching presentation.)
Activity instructions:
-
Teacher
prepare computer to show her power point presentation about the family to
students
-
While
she is preparing this, she asks some questions to student to draw their
attention to the lesson. For example, she can ask whether they find a video or
presentations on computer enjoyable or not.
-
Then,
teacher tells students why they are going to learn this subject, where they can
use them. In other words, teacher explains the aim of this activity to the
students.
-
She
starts showing her presentation.
-
While
she is showing it, she sometimes stops to make students write down new
vocabulary, such as mother, father, sister, and etc.
-
At
the end of the power point presentation, teacher asks what their prediction is
about the subject, how they find the presentation, whether they like it or not,
and etc. to make students speak about the activity.
-
Then,
teacher divides class into groups, she says to students to share their notes in
each other, and then one student of each group stands up and tells their notes
to the class.
Cards
Aim:
The purpose in
this activity is to teach grammar rules to student implicitly. Some of cards have pictures of family members
and some of them are full of plural and singular nouns. Students have a choice
to select cards which they like, and then they are asked to use these two cards
in a sentence. So, they become aware of the grammar rules in this activity
implicitly. They use their speaking and reading skills in this activity. At the
end of this activity, students become more aware of how the language works.
Activity
instruction:
-
Firstly,
teacher shows a poster full of pictures about family members, numbers, and
singular and plural nouns, such as a car, two cars, a ball, three balls and
etc.
-
She
puts it on the first desk, and she says to them come near the poster.
-
They
all look at the pictures, and they try to read the name of family members, the
numbers.
-
Teacher
calls some students’ name and she makes them read example sentences which are
written on the poster.
-
Then,
all students sit down their places. Teacher starts to show cards one by one.
-
Students
select cards and try to set a sentence by using them.
-
Teacher
encourages students to participate the activity by saying ‘ good job, you are
really good and etc.’
-
After
all students set sentences by choosing cards, teacher asks how they find this
activity.
-
Then,
she gives more example sentences, and she tells something about her family
members.
-
She
again asks some questions to students, such as how many sister and brother they
have, what their father and mother have, how many books they have and etc., in
order to make the students speak about their family members with using numbers,
plural and singular nouns.

in this activity. At the end of this activity, students learn the unit by their
own efforts and take part in their learning process.
Activity
instructions:
-
First

pairs.
-
Students
start to write their own dialog which should be about the family members, the
numbers, and the singular and plural nouns they have learnt during the lesson.
-
While
students are trying to write the dialog, teacher observes them.
-
When
they finish writing, teacher asks volunteers to act their dialog. If there is a
volunteer, they act first. If there is not any volunteer, teacher calls
someone, and he comes with his friend on the board and acts the dialog.
-
After

-
They
choose the best group together. And, teacher congratulates this group.
