4th Grade Unit 13 Toys Pronunciation Activities

TEACHING PRONUNCIATION: Car, toy guitar, teddy bear, doll, jigsaw puzzle, computer games, train, robot, crayons, paints, pens, track, carriage, bug 
MATERIALS: Toys, video (+ song), Bingo cards





 
PROCEDURE
  1. NOTICING
Activity 1:
OBJECTIVES:
1. Students will be aware of pronunciation of toys such as  car, toy guitar, teddy bear, doll, jigsaw puzzle, computer games, train, robot, crayons, paints, pens, bug with the help of the toys.
Teacher comes to class with a bag full of toys in order to draw student’s attention. She puts them on the desk while talking about them one by one: “There is a doll. There is a teddy bear in my toy bag. There is a toy guitar. There is a car. There is train in my toy bag etc." Teacher chooses 14 volunteers. Each of them takes one of the toys and waits in front of the class. Teacher pronounces the name of the toys from beginning to the end. Teacher gives the instruction “There is a song in the video. Listen to the toys song (by Peter Weatherall- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlkZm8Z2lb0) carefully. There are toys in the video. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlkZm8Z2lb0) We will watch the video. When you hear the name of the toy, please step forward".


B. STRUCTURING
Activity 2: Bingo Game
OBJECTIVES:
1. Students will be able to hear and recognize the names of the toys.
Teacher divides the class into four groups. Teacher gives the instruction about the game: " We will play Bingo game. It is very enjoyable. There will be four groups. I will give you bingo cards. I will choose one of the toys and pronounce the name of the toy. when you hear the word, you will cover it with a piece of paper. When you cover all of the toys, say BINGO" Teacher announces the winner group at the end of the game. 
C. PROCEDURALIZATION
Activity 3: Whisper Game
OBJECTIVES:
1. Students will be able to hear and produce the names of the toys.
 Teacher divides the class into four groups. Teacher gives the instruction about the game:
"We will play Whisper game. It is very enjoyable. There will be four groups. I will say the name of a toy. You will tell your friend silently. The last group member will choose the toy. S/he will pronounce the name of the toy and show it to us." Teacher records the scores on the board. She announces the winner group at the end of the game.
