4th Grade Unit 11 Food and Drinks Pronunciation Activities

Grade/ Unit: 4th grade-Unit 11-Food and Drinks

Language point: carrot, orange, banana, grapes, potato, tomato, apple, milk, water, fruit juice, tea, hamburger

Aims: to be aware of individual sounds, to produce the sounds accurately, to develop listening awareness

Materials: pictures, videos, colorful alphabet cartoons, sheets



Present:
Activity: listen and repeat
Aims: Students listen and try to understand the words. Then, they try to produce the words.
1-      I use ‘chocolate cake’ song. Pupils listen to the song twice. (http://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/en/songs/chocolate-cake)
2-      I give them chocolate cake song’s lyrics and they try to sing the song.
3-      Then, I use picture of the food and drinks (carrot, orange, banana, grapes, potato, tomato, apple, milk, water, fruit juice, tea). I hand out the letter cartoons to the students randomly. Every student has a letter. I show a food and drinks picture to pupils.
4-      They try to bring together individual sounds of the letter of the food and drinks. For instance, I show the carrot picture to the students. The students who have the letters of the carrot (C-A-R-R-O-T) came to the board and make up the word. Then, the whole class says the word loudly. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLJe7IQtoeM)

Practice:
Aims: Students hear a sentence and tell the sentence to their friends correctly.
Activity: whispering game
1-      Students make three groups. This is a game between groups.
2-      I say a sentence for each group, which contains food and drinks name. For example, Ayşe wants to eat banana and apple.
3-      They try to whisper the sentences correctly to each other. The last students of the groups have to pronounce the word accurately.
4-      The group who achieves to pronounce the sentence accurately than the other groups is the winner. I have chocolate for the winner.

Produce:
Aims: they write own their songs and compose it orally.
Activity: write a song and sing it
1-      I want the students to make groups of five.
2-      Each group try to create a song using food and drinks names (carrot, orange, banana, grapes, potato, tomato, apple, milk, water, fruit juice, tea, and hamburger)
3-      They sing their song in front of the whole class.
