GAME LESSON PLAN

6TH GRADE

UNIT:  THE WEATHER AND SEASONS

LANGUAGE POINTS:  Vocabularies of seasons and weather, the chunks of “What is the weather?”, “It’s sunny, windy etc…”

 

NOTICING

Activity: Powerpoint presentation, repetition.

Materials: Computer, projector, powerpoint.

Aim: The aim of this activity is to make the students aware of some vocabularies and chunks about the usage of weather expressions, and to teach them with pictures in an amusing and interesting way.

Procedure: The teacher will use the powerpoint presentation to teach the expressions about weather and seasons with pictures on the slide. The teacher will pronounce the words or chunks, then the students will repeat after the teacher, they will learn the meaning through pictures.

STRUCTURING

Activity: Silent Picture

Materials: Students and any materials

Aim: The aim of this activity is to teach seasons and the expressions of weather in an amusing way, to make the lesson amusing, interesting, to make the students active, to make the subject permanent in their minds with practice.

Procedure: In this activity, firstly, the teacher will act an action about weather without any speech, by using gestures, mimes, body language and any materials, after that she will ask “What’s the weather? or Which season is it?” The students will try to guess and say randomly. Then the students will act in front of the class voluntarily, if they don’t want, the teacher will continue and the others will guess and answer it.

 

PROCEDURALISING

Activity: Weather Forecast

Materials: Computer, projector, powerpoint

Aim: The aim of this activity is to help the students produce the language, to see what they have learnt in an amusing way.

Procedure: The teacher will use the powerpoint to show the weather forecast in Turkey. On the slide, there are pictures about the weather on the map of Turkey. The students will work their peers. They will ask each other about the weather in Turkey. For example; one student will say “How’s the weather in Ankara or another city?  and another student will say “It’ s sunny or etc…” They will make a dialogue according to these pictures on the slide.
