Pre-Storytelling
Part
Activity: Introducing the characters of story to the
students
Language points: Teaching simple expressions ''What is your name? Where are you from? '' (am,is,are structure)
Aims:
Aims:
- To warm the
students to lesson
- To develop
students understanding
- To draw the
students attention
- To give some
clues about the lesson
Procedure:
Teacher enters the classroom and greets the students. He
asks some questions to them. ‘Do you like Stories?’ ‘Did you listen story before?’ ‘Do you like
listening story?’ Teacher draws student’s attention by asking some questions
like that. Later, the teacher introduces the characters of the students by
using pictures. Teacher only says the characters names.
While Story Telling Part
Activity: Telling the story using pictures and powerpoint
presentation
Materials: Powerpoint presentations, Pictures of the
Characters
Aims:
- To learn
some new vocabularies
- To learn
lesson in funny way
- To learn how
you can meet with somebody
- To develop
their listening skills
- To learn some
cities in Turkey.
- To learn
become a friend with strangers.
- To learn the
goals easily by using repetitions and rhymes
- To develop
positive attitudes towards language
Procedure:
Teacher starts to tell story. He uses pictures and powerpoint
presentation while he tells the story.
Once upon a time, there is a donkey in a village of Amasya.
His name is Peter. He is pretty old. He couldn’t find anything to eat. He
decides to go warm place, Antalya, to find something to eat. He goes goes goes
and sees a dog on the road and says:
‘’ Hello, hello!
What’s your name?
What’s your name?
What’s your name?
Hello, hello!
What’s your name?
Tell me your name …
The dog replies ‘My name is Jason. Where are you from? ‘
Peter: I'm Peter and I'm from Amasya. I'm going to Antalya
to find some food’
The dog asks ‘Can i join you?’
The donkey agrees and together they set out. When they come
Ankara, They see a cat. The donkey says:
‘’ Hello, hello!
What is your name?
What is your name?
What is your name?
Hello, hello!
What is your name?
Tell me your name … ‘’
The cat answers the question ‘My name is Sylvester .Where
are you from? ‘’
The donkey replies ‘ I'm Peter and I'm from Amasya and the
dog is Jason and he is from Sivas. We are going to Antalya to find some food.
Do you want to join us?
The cat accepts the offer and joins the group.
After a while, they go go go and see a rooster.
(The teacher stops here and asks the students ‘what will the
donkey say to the rooster?’. The teacher listens some answers and then tells
the rest of the story.)
Then they say:
‘’ Hello, hello!
What is your name?
What is your name?
What is your name?
Hello, hello!
What is your name?
Tell me your name … ‘’
The rooster answers ‘My name is Billy. Where are you from?’
The donkey starts to talk ‘ I'm Peter and I'm from Amasya ,
The dog is Jason and he’s from Sivas and the cat is Sylvester and he is from
Ankara. We are going to Antalya to find some food. ‘’
The rooster says ‘i know the way i can show the way to you ‘
The donkey says ‘My friends and i are glad to join us.’
After a looooong journey, they find Antalya and huge valley
with green verdure. The valley has a lot of things to eat. The donkey is happy
now. The cat, dog and rooster are happy as well. They live in peace forever
there…
Post-Storytelling Part
Activity 1: Asking Comprehension Questions about the story.
Materials: There is no need for material in this part but
the teacher uses his drawing skills to explain some word to the students.
Aims: The teacher does this activity for
- To check the
students understanding of story, words … etc.
- To practice
language
- If students
don’t understand the story we can enlighten their understanding the story.
Procedure:
The teacher asks comprehension questions to students’ ’what
will we use while we meet with other people?’’
What is the meaning of rooster?’’ … etc.
Activity 2: Role Play
Materials: Masks, Role Play Cards
Aims:
- to learn the language (grammar, vocabulary… etc.)in funny way
- to produce the language
- to develop their social, cultural and linguistic skills
- to learn the lesson with enjoyable and interesting activity
- to practice the lesson
- to develop their listening and speaking
- to memorize the vocabularies, chunks, repetitions … etc.
- to understand the story correctly
Procedure:
- The teacher
divides the class into group of four students.
- Each member of
the group chooses their mask and their roles as well.
- Students act
out the dialogues in front of the class.
- At the end of
the class they choose the best group which play well.
