STORYTELLING LESSON PLAN
6th Grade
Unit: The Seasons and The Weather
Language Points: Making the students aware of some vocabularies, chunks and pronunciation about the seasons and weather.






NOTICING
Activity: Powerpoint presentation, repetition
Materials: Computer, projector, powerpoint, board
Aim: The aim of this activity is to prepare the students for storytelling, teach the vocabularies, chunks and pronunciation of the seasons and weather and present the setting and the characters before the storytelling.
Procedure: The teacher uses powerpoint presentation to teach the vocabularies, chunks and pronunciation of the seasons and weather by using pictures on the slide and repetition. After the teacher makes the students aware of these, he presents the setting and the characters briefly.
STRUCTURING
Activity: Telling the story the name of which is the ant and the cricket by using powerpoint or video.
Materials: Computer, projector, powerpoint and video.
Aim: The aim of this activity is to draw the students attention to the usage of what they have learnt by using pictures or videos, make them aware of the usage of vocabularies, chunks and pronunciation, ensure them an interesting, enjoyable, authentic lesson, give them a massage in addition to the language points.

Procedure: The teacher begins the story by using powerpoint or video, by saying; “once upon a time…”. He draws their attention to the lesson, he uses mimes, gestures, intonation, low and high voice and repetition during storytelling. For example; after he has said “after summer,….” waits for students and they say loudly autumn and he continues or he uses his hands to show the falling of leaves by bringing his hands down or uses his body to show cold. In addition, the teacher is telling the story by heart without reading by ensuring eye contact with the students, and the students are only watching the video or looking at the pictures without any voice or any written text.

PROCEDURALISING

Activity: Matching
Materials: Computer, projector, powerpoint    

Aim: The aim of this activity is to see what they have learnt from  the lesson and whether they are able to use them or not.

Procedure: The students will firstly match some chunks with pictures and they also will pronounce them, for example; they will say “It’s cold” by showing the picture. Then, they will match some sentences about the story. It shows how much they understand and listen. They also learn how a sentence continues.
