Unit 12 Health Problems

Language points: illnesses (headache, stomachache, toothache, sore throat, cough), giving advices (should/ shouldn’t), asking questions (what’s the matter with you?)

Materials: pictures, powerpoint presentation for 7 dwarfs, worksheets.

Aims: at the end of the lesson students will be able to

• Ask and answer questions about illnesses.
• Give advices on a familiar subject.

Procedure

The teacher enters in to the class and greets students. She puts the pictures on the board and asks what they see in the pictures. Then she tells the first part of the story and talk about characters.

First part

Snow White is a beautiful but unlucky princess because she has got a bad stepmother. Her stepmother is a witch and she doesn’t want to live with Snow White. She tries to kill her but luckily Snow White can run away. Snow White is living with seven dwarfs in a small house now. Seven dwarfs live in the forest and they work in a mine all day. Snow white cleans their home, wash their clothes and cooks for them.

After they talk about the characters the teacher starts to tell the story. She uses pictures and body language to make the story interesting.

When she finishes telling the story, she wants students to tell what happened in the story. She wants students to tell the story when she stops somewhere. They do a retelling activity with the guidance of the teacher.

At last the teacher distributes a worksheet and students fill in the blanks in the dialogs as a post telling activity. When they all finish the worksheet some students give the answers. The teacher asks their feeling about the story and finishes the lesson.

SNOW WHITE AND SEVEN DWARFS

One day while Snow White is cooking, Dopey comes home early. Snow White gets surprised and asks: “what’s the matter with you Dopey?” Dopey says: “I’ve got a bad headache” “you should take an aspirin and rest. Let’s go upstairs.” Snow White says. After that Dopey goes his bed, Snow White goes downstairs and gets surprised again. Bashful is there. “What’s the matter with you Bashful” she asks. Bashful says: “I’ve got a bad stomachache.” Snow White says: “you should eat soup and rest. Let’s go upstairs.” After that Bashful goes his bed Snow White go downstairs and gets surprised. Sneezy is there. Snow white asks “what’s the matter with you Sneezy?” he says “I’ve got a bad toothache.” “You should brush your teeth and rest lets go upstairs.” Snow White says. After that Sneezy goes his bed Snow White goes downstairs and gets surprised again. Sleepy is there. Snow white asks again “what’s the matter with you Sleepy?” Sleepy says “I’ve got a bad sore throat.” “You should drink mint and lemon and rest. Let’s go upstairs” Snow White says. After that sleepy goes his bed snow white goes downstairs and gets surprised again. Happy is there. Snow white asks “what’s the matter with you happy?” he says “I’ve got a bad cough.” “You should drink linden tea and rest. Let’s go upstairs.” Snow White says. After that Happy goes his bed Snow White goes downstairs. She sees Grumpy and Doc. She doesn’t get surprised. She asks “are you ill, too?” Grumpy and Doc says: “no we aren’t. We come to help you. Let’s look after our friends together.”
