Grade 5 Unıt 4 School Life Grammar lesson plan

GRAMMAR LESSON PLAN
Grade: 5

Unit: 4 School Life

Grammar Point: Classroom rules, Using Imperative forms, Giving Commands such as Open your books, Raise your hand, Be quiet, Don’t make noise etc.

NOTICING

Objectives:
ü  Students will be able to develop an awareness about commands and imperative form
ü  S  will notice and become aware of the structure and meaning
ü  S will notice the different language form while giving commands.
ü  S will develop an idea that we use different imperative forms in different context.

MATERIALS: a video  and some colorful flashcards .



Activity 1: Watching a video

Procedure: Firstly,students watch the video  which includes basic imperative forms .Then they watch it again and try to repeat. Subtitles also help them to see language forms clearly. This video help them to  make connection between the actions and the commands.



Activity 2:Introducing commands via flashcards




Procedure: Teacher shows some flashcards which are related to classroom rules. She introduces each one and students repeat after her. She explains how we use imperative forms .She also gives some examples using classroom objects or act them out. For example; open the door, close the window, do not speak etc…


 STRUCTURING

Activity 1:Missing Word Game

Objectives:

ü  Students will manipulate forms and meaning in a controlled practice
ü  S will be able to complete missing part of the classroom rules.

Materials: Board marker, some papers on which missing words are written, removable adhesive

Procedure: The teacher writes some sentences on the board that have some missing parts.

4. Don’t …………!
5. Be ……………!
6. Keep the board ………….!
7. Don’t ………………in the exam!
Then, she puts some piece of papers  face down on a desk.

Students choice one of them and try to find out missing words. The one who sticks the paper on the board reads the sentence aloud. When they finish they repeat the imperative forms all together.
Activity 2: Act what I am saying
Objectives:
ü  Students will be able to act different commands.
ü  S will be able to learn giving commands and instruction using imperative form.
Procedure: Students work in groups of 5.One of the group member gives commands to his/her group members and they try to mime it in front of the class. If one of the group member acts different or wrong action, the group loses the game. This activity is very beneficial and enjoyable because students work collaboratively and develop a positive dependency.

PROCEDURALIZING
Objectives:
ü  Students will involve language use and they will formulate their own meanings in context.
Materials: Yellow cartoons, crayons
Activity :Making their own posters
Procedure: Students work in groups. The group is formulated according to the number of students. Teacher distributes a yellow cartoon to the groups and asks them to  prepare a poster which includes classroom rules. Then, they hang them on the class board or wall.
