5th Grade Unit 12 Health Problems Vocabulary Activities


DENİZ TEKİN
Lesson: English
Subject: vocabulary teaching
Duration: 40min.

Vocabulary items: headache, backache, earache, toothache, stomachache, cold, cough.
Structure: What’s the matter with you?
Materials: board and flashcards.

AIMS:
  • Students will be able to pronounce the names of the illnesses.
  • Students will meet the necessary vocabulary items of the unit.
  • Students will be able to have a chance to talk about the illnesses.


PRESENTATION
Firstly the teacher informs the students about the lesson. To draw students’ attention she shows a box of painkillers and asks students’ opinions about it.
Then she shows the flashcards and tells the names of the illnesses. She wants students to repeat after her. After some practice, she puts the cards on the board and writes the names on the board. They practice the words on the board.

PRACTICE
The teacher takes the cards and starts a new activity. She wants some volunteers for this activity. Students will come and take a card. Then put it correct place on the board. At last the students have a drill. The teacher starts the activity. She asks the first student “what’s the matter with you?” she wants students to answer as “I have got a …..”.

PRODUCE
The teacher wants students to prepare dialogs and to draw some pictures representing the dialogs. She walks around the class and check the students’ Work.
