Language Point:Descriptive adjectives: tall,short,young,old,fat,thin,strong,weak,pretty,handsome,hairy,bald.
He is tall and handsome. Aims: With this activity,teacher aims to present the adjectives (tall,short,young,old,fat,thin,strong,weak,pretty,handsome,hairy,bald) by using pictures. After this activity students will be able to describe physical appearance by using the adjectives (tall,short,young,old,fat,thin,strong,weak,pretty,handsome,hairy,bald).
Materials: Pictures and Ppt Presentation,A songPRESENTATION
Activity Name: Watch the video and Repeat the adjectivesAim of the Activity:This activity supplies the students to learn correct pronunciation and stress.They learn more easily how the adjectives such as tall,short,young,old,fat,thin,strong,weak,pretty,handsome,hairy,bald are pronounced.They can repeat the video’s input,so they do not have to produce the adjectives themselves.This can be both written and spoken input.The students should repeat them by either speaking or writing.If they can do this effectively,they can learn correct pronunciation in an easy way.
Produce(How to do it ):
Firstly,ask the class to watch the adjective video and then you can ask them to pay attention intonation of the adjectives.Also,you can provide both spoken and written repetition,so you can repeat the adjectives aloud and at the same time you can write the adjectives on the board.When they watch the video in one more time,ask them to repeat the adjectives all together.When we they repeat these,they can learn more easily how the adjectives are pronounced.Moreover,when you write the adjectives on the board,you can stick the pictures of the adjectives ,too.If you both visualize and write them on the board,this can be more comprehensible,effective and permanent learning.PRACTICE
Activity Name: Sound BingoAim of the Activity:Students can practice recognizing similarities and differences between sounds/discriminating sounds.This activity helps them to notice how the adjectives are pronounced.
Produce(How to do it ):
You can use Bingo cards that have minimal pairs on them,using the adjectives such as tall,short,young,old,fat,thin,strong,weak,hairy,bald,pretty,handsome,hairy,bald. Divide the class into groups of 4/5.Ask each group to choose one envelope which has adjectives and their written forms.Then you say the names of the adjectives at random.When a group hear one of their adjectives,ask them to choose one of the adjectives and then ask this group to cover words which are the same or which have the same vowel or consonant sound by using the adjective in the picture.At first,you have to demonstrate and start with only two or three sounds because more than this can be difficult for them;for example;strong,song,pong,ping…etc.PRODUCE
Activity Name: Write a song with the adjectivesAim of the Activity:Students can write a song by using these adjectives(tall,short,young,old,fat,thin,strong,weak,pretty,handsome,hairy,bald).This activity can increase their creativity and they can learn how these adjectives are used.
Produce(How to do it ):
You can divide the class into 3 groups or more.Then you ask them to write a song by using the adjectives(tall,short,young,old,fat,thin,strong,weak,hairy,bald,pretty,handsome).You give them time to write their songs.When they finish their songs,you ask one of the groups to come and sing the song to the friends.The song can be like this: Thin,thin,fat,fat woman
Thin ,thin ,fat ,fat woman
I love you,fat woman
I love you,fat woman…etc.
