5th Grade Unit 11 Personal Possessions Songs

Lesson plan – Songs                                          Cansel İşlek 10131044

Lesson:           English
Grade:            5th

Subject:          Personal possessions – Professionals and their tools

Materials:       Song and lyrics (worksheet)

Aims:              Engage and motivate the students

To attract students’ attention with a song about the topic

Repeat and internalize new vocabulary items (teacher, doctor, tailor etc.)

To develop a positive attitude towards the target language and the lesson

                        To warm up students

Mental preparation:

The teacher enters the class and tells the students that he has found a really nice song. Then he asks them whether they like listening to songs as well and if they want to listen to it. After this small talk the teacher asks them what occupations they do remember from last week. This will help students prepare the students for the song.

Activity 1:

The teacher gives clear instruction and explains that they will get a handout before listening to the song. The students will listen to the song twice and have to fill in the blanks while listening to it. Actually, they just have to write the names of the occupations into the blanks. It shouldn’t be too difficult in order not to demotivate them. Afterwards they compare the answers.

Activity 2:

The teacher again plays the song. But this time he stops the song at several parts and asks questions just like ‘Who is he?’ or ‘What is his job?’ Here, the students have to show what they understood and what they remember. Again, we have a repetition of the new learned vocabulary items.
