UNIT 1
NEW FRIENDS
Grade: 4th Grade
Activity: Singing Song
Objectives of the Song Activity

       Linguistic aims:
  •   To teach basic words related to basic greeting expressions (good morning, good afternoon, good evening, good night)
  •  To allow students to introduce with new structures of greeting expressions (am/is/are), and possessive pronouns (my/your) via simple greeting expressions (hello, what is your name? my name is..Nice to meet you)
  •  To provide students to practice basic greeting expressions with enjoyable rhythm and repetitions. 
  •  To raise awareness by the aspects of pronunciation of new vocabularies and structures as well.(good morning, good afternoon, good evening, good night, hello, how are you? What is your name? my name is…etc)


 Psychological aims: 
  •  To help learners to raise positive attitude towards target culture and language making the classroom atmosphere fun and enjoyable via song and making high the motivation (particularly presenting the new language points through puppet show will decrease inhibition creating stress-free environment) 
  •  To let students to have self-confidence or to be in non-threatening atmosphere as singing the song as a class or in groups
 Cognitive aims: 
  •   To raise concentration and coordination 
  •   To help learners to predict what comes next using their knowledge and rhythm of the song (for example: Hello, hello what is your name? Learner can easily guess the next part will relate to ‘my name is…..’
  Social aims: 
  •  To help learners to gain a social experience and develop a class or group activity 
  •  Students try to act with a cooperation singing the song and showing the actions using TPR (clapping, tapping, turning around…etc.
Cultural aims: 
  •  To enable students to make a cross-cultural comparison, because the songs include cultural elements in them 
  •   songs include cultural elements in them
WARM UP STAGE
                              
Activity: puppet show
                             
 Aims: 

  •    The main aim of this activity is to set the context and help learners to remind basic greeting expressions activating their schemata in lead stage. (good morning, good afternoon, good evening, good night, hello, how are you? What is your name? my name is…etc)
  •   To create a non-threatening, enjoyable, fun atmosphere making learners to be ready, psychologically ready to grasp new language points.
Materials: 
  • Puppets will be used to create a dialogue and sing the song and to participate learners to the process of the conversation to make them active. 
  •  Flashcards or pictures will be used to help learners to remind the vocabularies that relate to greeting expressions. (good morning, good afternoon, good evening, good night, hello, how are you? What is your name? my name is…etc)


 


Procedure:





  First teacher creates a dialogue to sing the song using the puppets.

Lulu: Hello! My name is Lulu. I like songs. Do you like songs? I have another friend, His name is Nulu. (another puppet appears)
Nulu: Hellooo Luluuu, good morning.
Lulu: Helloo Nuluuu, good morning.
Nulu: Heyyy, we have new friends. Today we learned a new, lovely song in school. Do you want to listen to it?

Nulu: Hello hello
         What’s your name?
         What’s your name?
Lulu: My name is Lulu
         My name is Lulu.
Nulu: Clap clap clap your hands
          If your name is Lulu (Lulu claps her hands)
Lulu: Hello, helloo how are you?
Nulu: I’m good
Lulu: I’m bad
Nulu: Turn around, turn around, turn around
If you are bad (Lulu turns around himself)
Lulu: Tap tap tap on the floor
               If you are good (Nulu taps on the floor)
They both shake each others’ had saying: Shake shake shake your hand
Nulu and Lulu: Nice to meet you.
Lulu: open open open your eyes biggg
               Saying saying “good morning”
( Nulu opens her eyes saying “good maorniiinggg”)
Lulu: Kiss kiss kiss your friend,
               Saying saying saying “good afternoon”
Nulu: Good afternoon!!!
Lulu: Do, do , do your homework
               Saying saying saying “good evening”
Nulu: I love, I love, I love hard workinggg!!
Lulu: Close, close, close your eyes
               Saying saying saying “good night)
(Nulu closes his eyes saying “good night) 
  • Then puppets want from students to sing together to involve students  (clapping, tapping, turning around) 
  •  Later teacher sings the song sticking the pictures related to the song to the board to help learners to visualize the actions in the song to the students. 
  •  Teacher tries to participate the whole class to sing the song.
PRACTICE PAR
Activity: Singing the song
Aims: To help learners to practice the song to gain fluency
Materials: The written text of the song will be used.
Pocedure: 

  •       Teacher distributes the written text of the song to the students 
  •         Later, teacher put students in three groups to sing one part of the song showing the actions using TPR as well.
PRODUCTION PART:
Activity: creating a song
Aims:
  •     The main aim of this activity is to help learners to use their creativeness and language for the aim of communication in an enjoyable way.
Materials: Students will write their song on a piece of paper.
Pocedure:
  •        Teacher want students to become with their peers and write a new song including greeting expression
  •         Teacher chooses pairs randomly and wants them to sing the song using puppets to the whole class.
