Noticing Activity:
Materials:
Teacher uses ten flashcards which she has prepared.
The flashcards have the pictures of foods (an apple, an onion, a banana,
spinach, a lemon, eggs, chips, a piece of cake, an orange, a pizza)
(I put them on PPT)
Aims:
1. Students remember the names and the pronunciation of
these foods
2. Teacher says these words in a sentence using
like/dislike so students can guess what the like/dislike means and how they are
used in a sentence
3. Teacher asks students what the name of the foods so
students pay attention; that’s mean students is active
Teacher enters the classroom with flashcards and so she
attracts attention with them.Firstly, she asks how they are, then she says that
she has not have had a breakfast, she is hungry and she starts to talk about what she likes for breakfast. Then
she says she wants to show some foods to the students.
Procedure
1. Teacher sticks a smiling face and a sad face by
dividing into two the board. Teacher shows the flashcards which are foods (apple,
pizza, ) .Then she sticks the apple flashcard under the smiling face and says “I like apple” She uses mime to
emphasize the meaning.
2. Then she sticks the eggs flashcard under the sad face
and says “I don’t like egg”.
3. She introduces ten foods here. Students see the foods
and they start to learn the name of the foods.
4. Teacher sometimes asks the students if they like the
food or not while she is sticking. Here they start to understand how they can
use like/dislike in the sentence
5. After all of the foods are shown, teacher gives
number the flashcard on the boards. Write the numbers near the foods.
6. Teacher asks students to hold up the number of
fingers corresponding to the word she says. For example; she says “what number
is apple” and the students hold up two fingers apple is number two. Here we
check if the students learn the names of foods or not
Structuring Activity:
Material: A worksheet about the foods which Sam and Mary’s like
and dislikes
Aims:
1. Students learn how they make a sentence with like
and dislike
2. Because they read and write the sentences after they
match from the text, they improve their reading and writing skills
Procedure
1. Teacher hands out a worksheet about the foods which
Sam and Mary’s likes and dislikes. There are the pictures of foods and
sentences about their likes and dislikes.
2. At first, students match the sentences with foods.
After 3-5 minutes, teacher asks questions such as “Does Sam like apple?”
“Doesn’t Mary dislike fish?” and so on.
3. The student who answers the question writes the
sentence on the board. Here the teacher checks how they pronounce the words and
how they write the sentences.
Proceduralising Activity:
Aims:
1. Students improve their prediction abilities
2. Students can make their own sentences
3. Students pay attention the other’s sentences and they
may give feedback by thinking of what they learn
Procedure
1. Teacher makes students in groups of two.
2. One student tells the other what foods she likes or dislikes.
However she doesn’t make sentences, she only says the foods name. For example;
“apple, pears, pizza, orange, lemon”.
3. She writes the name of the foods on the board. Then
the other student guesses what she likes or dislikes. “You like apple, pears,
pizza but you don’t like orange and lemon”. The person whose like and dislikes
they are talking about respond with “Yes, I like apple, pears, pizza but I
don’t like orange and lemon”.
4. If the student who makes prediction says wrong, the
other student corrects her.
Here the students
create their own sentences and use them in communication. Then they use their
mind and they improve their ability of prediction.
