LESSON PLAN
LEVEL: 5TH
GRADE
SUBJECT:
UNİT 5 SCHOOL STORES (teaching pronunciation)
1) NOTICING
Materials:
video
Aim of the
activity:
- They learn the pronunciation of
school objects
- Students’ attention is drawn
Activity 1:
Beginning to
the lesson: the teacher starts the lesson with a video. Teacher attracts
students’ attention to the topic. Video may help students to get a picture in
their minds.
2)
STRUCTURING
Aims: To
use pronunciation as a way of raising energy; to make the learning of numbers
interesting and memorable
Materials:
None
Activity 2:
Procedure:
1) Ask learners to work in pairs.
2) Ask each pair to count to 20 between themselves.
Eg.
Learner A: pencil
Learner B: book
Learner
A: notebook etc.
3) Now tell them to do this again but this time to say every third word in
a surprised way. It may be a good
idea to demonstrate this with one pair in front of the class first of all.
Now ask
them to try saying every third vocabulary in other ways. Some good examples to
use are in an angry way, very happily, as
a question, loudly, quietly, nervously,
suspiciously etc
3)
PROCEDURALIZING
Tongue twistersMaterials: board
Pronunciation focus: any sound
Activity Type: group work
Aim of the
activity
All levels
and ages enjoy tongue twisters. They work well as a warm up to get students
speaking or as an activity to help students to practise pronouncing difficult
sounds in English. It is the combination of sounds in the words and the
repetition of the phrases that makes them difficult but fun.
Step1: The teacher says the tongue twister at normal speed. Teach it to the students by letting them join in. Then get them to say it a little faster and to repeat it three times in a row.
For example:
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck
could chuck wood?
Answer:
(The answer to the riddle is)
"A woodchuck would chuck all the wood he could if a woodchuck could chuck
wood."
