LESSON PLAN

LESSON: English

LEVEL: elementary

LENGTH: 45 min.

At the end of the lesson students will

  • Be able to differ “æ   and   “eː” sounds in words.

  • Be able to produce these sounds in connected speech.

  • Be able to find new words including these sounds.

MATERIALS

Board and flashcards.

PROCEDURE

At the beginning of the lesson the teacher greets the students and asks some daily questions to make them ready for speaking English.

Then the teacher shows some pictures and wants students to say the words. ( tap/tape, cap/cape, pan/pain, rat/rate) the teacher try to make students be able to recognize the sound differences of the vowels.

After this activity the teacher shows some words and students read them. The teacher divides the board into two. One for “æ” sound and the other for “eː” not to show the phonetic symbols the teacher use a star for one of them and a square fort he other. Students come one by one, take a word and put it into a category.

For practicing the sounds the teacher writes two rhymes on the board and students read them together.

For checking their learning the teacher gives a handout and wants students find the odd done. After they finish, the teacher wants them check it with their desk mates and then she gives true answers.

The teacher wants students to find new words and pictures with these sounds and bring them in to the class to make a poster as homework.
