Aims:
Vocabulary aims:
ü To learn the names of pets and their descriptions.
Linguistic aims:
ü Students become much more familiar to some adjectives and sentence structures.
Psychological aims:
ü Students learn the pets and their descriptions in a stress-free environment.
Materials: A power point presentation, colorful pictures.
PRE-STORYTELLING ACTIVITIES
Aim: Teacher aims to teach some descriptions of the pets to students in an enjoyable way so he/she comes to class with a story the name of which is “The Cat in The Castle”.
Before starting the story, teacher wants to ask some questions about different stories such as; “Do you like fairy tales, or stories? Which stories do you know? “.
Teacher first shows colorful pictures which are related to story’s characters. By showing pictures, teacher aims to make students remember the pets and their descriptions.
WHILE-STORYTELLING ACTIVITIES:
Aim: Students learn the names of pets and their descriptions in an enjoyable way thanks to the storytelling.
Activity 1: Telling the story named “The Cat in The Castle”
Materials: PowerPoint presentation.
Procedure: Teacher tells the story and while telling it he/she sometimes asks some questions like “What will happen next? Where are they? Teacher aims to take their attention to the story.
THE CAT IN THE CASTLE
Once upon a time there was a beautiful cat that lived in a castle with her friends. One night an ogre saw the cat and said “You have got four legs and a long tail. You are white and very beautiful, you will live in my castle” and later the ogre captured the beautiful cat and locked her up in his castle.
The friends of the cat were very sad and all the pets in the land wanted to rescue the beautiful cat. They went to the castle one by one.
First, it was the rabbit in front of the ogre and it said “Heyy look at me ogre, I am a lovely rabbit. I have got two short legs and two long legs. I have got big ears and a small tail. Now give me the beautiful cat”.
The ugly ogre roared with anger when he saw the rabbit. His roar was so scary that the rabbit ran away in a hurry.
After the rabbit it was the dog in front of the ogre and it said “Heyy look at me ogre, I have got four legs and a long tail. I am a lovely dog and now give me the beautiful cat”.

After the dog, it was the hamster in front of the ogre and it said “Heyy look at me ogre, I am a hamster. I have got four short legs and a small tail. I am brown and small. Now give me the beautiful cat”.
The ugly ogre roared with anger when he saw the hamster. His roar was so scary that the hamster ran away in a hurry.
The beautiful cat was very sad because it was in the castle.
One day a friendly parrot was flying over the ogre’s castle. The parrot saw the beautiful cat and said “Heyy look at me beautiful cat, I am a parrot. I have got two legs and a long tail. I will help you”.
The parrot rescued the beautiful cat from the castle and put her on his strong back. They flew high in the sky.
The cat was very happy now because it was in her castle. All the pets were happy and they thanked the parrot.
Activity 2: Role playing
In this part, teacher has an activity for the students named as role playing. Teacher has a box in which there are different pictures that are related to scenes of the story. Students make some groups and every group takes a picture from the box later comes to the board and performs their role playing or teacher wants them to make five groups. Each person in the group chooses the best character that they love so much, later comes to the board and performs their role playing.
POST-STORYTELLING ACTIVITIES:
Activity: Drawing and coloring
In this part students have drawing and coloring activity. They like coloring so this activity may be encouraging for them. Teacher wants them to choose their favorite character in the story and later draw the character as a poster and later come to board to share his/her poster with us. After all students have finished their drawings and coloring, they come to board one by one and both share their character with us and also try to describe it by using few sentences. This activity goes on like this until nearly all the students share their posters with the class.
