GAME 1: THE NUMBER
GAME
Aim: The aim of this activity is to make students realize
the numbers from twenty to sixty. After this activity students should be aware
of the fact that some numbers have similar sounds but totally different
functions such as fourteen and forty.

sixty
- Listening tracks (http://www.englishnumber.com/english-numbers/two-figure-numbers/english-number-2-figures.html)
- A flash disk
- Pc
- Speaker
- Mp3 files:
Techniques: Listening comprehension
Procedure: First of all, teacher comes to classroom and
introduces the new topic after having a short conversation with students.
Teacher writes mixed numbers from one to sixty on the board like a crossword
(one under the other and side by side) but not all of them (1,29,38,44,50,
etc.). Then, the teacher reads all of the numbers one by one with clarifying
the important points such as numbers which have similar sounds ( thirteen and
thirty). After that, the teacher arranges the class in two or three groups
according to the size of the class. The teacher writes three group name on one
side of the board and underlines the names (A, B, C). He or she
explains the rules of the activity, as follows: The teacher opens a listening
track on pc and asks for a volunteer student. Then, one volunteer student will
come to the board and circles with the marker the number which is said in the
listening track. If the student circles the right number, he or she will gain
one point for his or her group. The student who gains the point will write the
point on the board after the teacher says it is correct. (If it is false, then
the student or the group will not gain any point.) After the listening tracks
finish, the teacher looks at the points. Which group gains the highest, they
will be the winner.
GAME 2: WORD GUESSING
GAME
Aim: This activity is used to make students practice the new
words. If they use the
new vocabulary, then they can easily understand and use them in daily life.
They will become autonomous receiver of those new words and they also
automatically answer almost all questions including that subject.
Vocabulary: Prepositions
of time
Materials: - A document of timetables (lesson schedule of
the students made by teacher)
- A flash disk or cd for the document
- Pc
- Projector
- Cards on which there are lessons
Procedure: Firstly, the teacher introduces a document of
timetables (lesson schedule of the students made by teacher) in which there are
days, hours and lessons. The teacher makes two or three groups in
terms of the size of the class. He or she explains the game rules. He or she
calls a student from one group to the front of the class. The teacher
sticks a card on the student’s back on which there is name of a lesson. The
other students sitting down should see what is on the student’s back,
but not the student standing. The student standing has to ask the others many
questions to guess what is pinned on his or her back. The student should
ask questions like “Which day is it? and What time is it? etc.”. His or her
team should help him or her with answering his or her questions (“It is on
Monday.” and “It is at ten thirty.” etc.) The other students can’t tell
the student directly what the word is. After the student guesses the
correct lesson, one of the other members of the same team comes and makes the
same. (The student who has known the lesson correctly takes a card on the
teacher’s table and sticks it on his or her teammate who comes on board) The
teacher looks his watch and after a minute he or she says “Time is up.” and
writes one point for each lesson they have known. Then, other team starts to
make the same thing. After all teams finish their turn, the teacher looks at
the points and announces the winner team.
