TEACHING WITH GAMES LESSON PLAN

Textbook: Primary English Student’s Book
Grade: 4th
Unit 14: Physical Appearance
Language Point: Descriptive adjectives: tall- short, fat-thin, long-short, fair- dark, curly- straight, old- young
Materials: colorful cards (adjectives on them). Power point presentation, tyre pump with balloon.

Time: 40 min.

OBJECTIVES

1.         Students practice what they have learned with the game.

2.         Students can make sentences and understand them.

3.         Students can use the structures in their daily life.

4.        Students learn the language while cooperating and interacting with each other.

NOTICING

Teacher asks students their favorite games and let them count their names. She sticks the adjectives on the board, turn to the students and repeats the adjectives by using her body language, gestures and mimics. And then,  ask them to predict what kind of game they will play.

STRUCTURING

Activity: Mirror game (20 min)
Teacher chooses one student. He/she selects one adjective and act it silently. The one who act the adjective says a friend’s name. His/her friend does the same action and says the name of the adjective. This game continues like this until everyone joins the activity.

 PROCEDURALISING

Activity: Telling a story ( with baloon game)

Teacher opens a power point presentation and informs students about the activity. Students try to make sentences according to the pictures. They have to use the adjectives on the board. While they’re making sentences, teacher pumps the balloon. Each student touches the balloon and makes the sentence. Teacher walks around the class with the balloon and helps students whenever they need. But the rules of the game are important: Teacher never passes the student until he/ she makes the correct sentence and they have limited time since the balloon may explode in their hands.
