Unit: Like/ Dislike

Noticing:
Material: a puppet is used. The puppet is made from the sock. Before teacher comes to the class, he/she prepares the puppet from the sock. It has hair, two eyes, a mouth.
Aims of using the puppet:
1. Because the puppet has different characteristic and it is colorful and interesting for students, it draws students’ attention , so students are more willingly to participate in the lesson.
2. They try to understand what’s going on ,and what teacher explains due to the fact that they are curious with the help of the puppet.
3. While they are listening to the puppet, they start to learn the name of the fruits and vegetables also ‘like and dislike”.
4. This activity makes students be ready to use language.
Teacher enters the classroom with a box in which there is a puppet made by the teacher The teacher starts to talk to students . Then, students ask the teacher what is in the box. With the help of the box , the teacher draws students’ attention. Teacher puts the box on the table and says that he/she will show the box later. Teacher starts to talk about what she/he likes. Then , he/ she says they are going to learn how to express their likes and dislikes. Students try to understand the aims of the lesson. She/he shows pictures from the computer. These pictures include fruits and vegetables.

Procedure of how to use the puppet:
1. At that time, she / he starts to use the puppet . Students are surprised. The teacher asks questions about what is the name pf the puppet and how old the puppet is.
2. Then the teacher starts to explain what the puppet likes and dislikes. While the teacher makes the puppet talk , he/she shows the pictures in order. For example, the puppet says “ I like apples” when the teacher shows the picture of the apples or the puppet says “I don’t like ice cream” when the teacher shows the Picture of the ice cream.
3. After he/ she shows all pictures and says the correct form, he/she writes some sentences on the board. With showing the pictures and puppet’s talk, the teacher gives meaning as well as form.
Structuring:
Materials: pictures of fruits and vegetables. They are printed out.
Aims of using the pictures and this activity:
1. While doing this exercise , students are able to use “ like/dislike” such as “Ayşe likes ice cream but she doesn’t like cheese”
2. As they are trying to guess, they are using the language. Additionally, they have fun.
3. Because they practice language, they will be able to understand how to use “like, dislike”
Procedure of this activity:
1.The teacher sticks some pictures to the board. Then, the teacher explains what students will do.
2.He/she wants them to write what they like and don’t like according to the pictures on the board. While they are writing, they shouldn’t show their sentences to their friends. They will write their sentences in two minutes.
3. Then, students who are volunteers come to the board and they try to guess what his/her friend likes and doesn’t like by looking at the pictures.( This can be applied in pairs. For example, .the teacher can ask students to choose partners. After students are in pairs, teacher explains what they will do)
Activity 2:
Materials: There isn’t any material used.
Aims of the activity:
1. This activity will help students improve their speaking skills.
2. Students will be aware of how to pronounce the names of the fruits and vegetables that they learned.
3. Students will know how to make up a sentence by using “ like/dislike” and the name of fruits and vegetables.
Procedure of the activity:
1.After they play the game, the teacher will explain another activity. The teacher sits in a circle with his/her students. He/she starts wih a sentence. For example , he/she says “ I like bananas”
2.The student next to the teacher continues with the sentence “ I like bananas but I don’t like apples”. Another students continues “ I like bananas and ice cream but I don’t like apples”.
3.They make a chain. If a student says the sentence incorrectly, the student who is near the student saying the false sentence begins a new sentence.
Proceduralising:
Materials: Cardboards, pictures and pencils .Pictures are fruits ,vegetable. Cardboards are given students.
Aims of this activity:
1. Students will be creative. Because they will create their own cardboards, they will be able to understand how to use like dislike much better.
2.Because they practice more, they will learn the subject better.
3.While they are doing this activity, students will be able to understand how to express what they like and dislike.
Procedure of this activity:
1. After students play games and practice with the language, the teacher divides students into the groups.
2.He/she gives some pictures and big cardboards to each group. The teacher asks students to cut out ten things that they like and stick them to the cardboards.
3.They also cut out ten things that they don’t like . They stick them too. Then the group members present their poster to the friends.
The teacher gives assignment students. He/she wants them to ask what their parents like and don’t like. They will learn their likes and dislikes and make posters that depict them.
